Topic: What would happen to iceland if ''the pirate'' party would recieve 22% of all votes?

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #40,539

So there were two polls made here in iceland, apparently the pirate party appears as the second most popular party on the island. What would happen if they got granted such power of this place?

Land of prosperity... the moment they get into parlament as the leading party, Iceland will achieve total domination.

22% of the electorate? So... seven people?

Nothing relevant to anyone in any other country.

Well i am worried about one thing, the pirate party would legalize pirating but that is likely to draw some angry attention at Iceland.

Well I got bad news for you... just because the pirate party wants to reform the copyright industry, doesn't mean they are all in for piracy.

No not necessarily, but one of their representatives in parliament openly talks about how there is a difference between theft and pirating. Not to mention that he also openly talks about anti-piracy
policies as dangerous to democracy.

It would be helpful if Iceland guy stopped by this thread. He knows a lot about Iceland.

Newsflash, they are. Bogus DMCA takedown notices have been widely used to censor stuff on the web (for example, on youtube). And most of the time it's harder to prove it's your content and it doesn't break any copyright laws, than it is to send a takedown notice and get it removed.

Also, not to mention "but think about the children!" censoring of the internet that the PP fights as well, and net neutrality etc. etc.

If things could stay this way until 2017, then that election is going to be sweet.
