It's not so much that there are "good" or "bad" ones, but the way they've run rampant over all parts of the internet is bad. On their own they can be funny, but when you reach the level of saturation that they have now, it's almost groan-inducing when I see them outside of chans. There's the whole problem of secondary "meme" sites that have distorted the idea of what a meme is, from something like the "my name is john" copypasta or mudkips into "take a picture and add Impact text" or creating story comics buy cutting and pasting reaction faces in paint.

I feel like the situation is actually allright as is. Us channers get to see new memes earlier, and often have ones that just stay in the chans. Meanwhile the non-channers have their clickbait moneymaking sites to lol it up over the older, more well-known memes.
