Because everything at malls is ridiculously marked up. Mainly because landlords are dicks. Everything on the internet is cheaper and it's easier to make a more informed decision instead of an impulse buy.

Amazon and many places that sell shoes and clothes online allow free returns until you get it right. This may take much longer, but shipping is one of the drawbacks to online shopping. You should know your sizes.
Also, I love Amazon Prime's free 2-day shipping.

In defense of shopping in a mall vs buying online.
Pre Christmas I needed to buy presents for GF's. Intimate apparel aka really nice bras. And a couple of dresses.
One cannot cop a feel of the material while shopping online.
