4 days, good for you. You're still getting drunk every night, right?

http://www.mnn.com/food/beverages/stories/study-abstaining-from-alcohol-significantly-shortens-life

The tightly controlled study, which looked at individuals between ages 55 and 65, spanned a 20-year period and accounted for variables ranging from socioeconomic status to level of physical activity. Led by psychologist Charles Holahan of the University of Texas at Austin, it found that mortality rates were highest for those who had never had a sip, lower for heavy drinkers, and lowest for moderate drinkers who enjoyed one to three drinks per day.

Hmmm. I was going to nitpick about how this doesn't establish cause-effect between alcohol consumption and life expectancy, but they do note in their abstract, if I'm understanding correctly, that even after controlling for other variables the effect persisted. Interesting.

Regardless, I don't like that article's sensationalist, misleading headline. They themselves note towards the end that a possible explanation is that the alcohol acted as a social lubricant which in turn had health benefits. So in that case, just being sociable would be a large part of this effect, yet the headline implies that just drinking moderate amounts of alcohol will increase your life expectancy.

OP has a relatively low life expectancy anyway.

That probably doesn't count all the drunk driving deaths. Or does it? I didn't click the link.

It includes all mortality, regardless of the reason.

at the beginning of every week you talk about sober life and sober living yet when the 7th day rolls around you get wasted

I've made it a week and tomorrow is day 8. I don't plan on getting drunk again.
