What is it about chans like Minichan, that tends to draw in users who are very angry, often mentally-ill, often antisocial, and seem to have lots of emotional problems? I include myself in this, by the way, so please do not be offended. I really want to know.

There's a few key things about "chan culture" sites that make them attractive to those sorts:
- Most allow anonymous posting, so people can be much freer with what they post since they don't have to worry as much about developing a bad reputation on the site.
- Moderation is generally more lax, so extreme posts or shitposts are generally more tolerated. Basically, you can get away with being more unusual/extreme.
- Like attracts like. Chans have a reputation for being home to social outcasts and weirdos, so of course they attract more people like that because they think they'll be in good company. And that's often true.
- Most allow anonymous posting, so people can be much freer with what they post since they don't have to worry as much about developing a bad reputation on the site.
- Moderation is generally more lax, so extreme posts or shitposts are generally more tolerated. Basically, you can get away with being more unusual/extreme.

Except this can still lead to a reputation via text voice, posting behavior, and tripcodes.

I know, that's why I said "as much". You can still be identified, but it's possible not to be if you're careful.
And, really, that's somewhat dependant on the chan's size. It would be easier to stay completely anonymous on 4chan than this place, for example. More of a crowd to blend into.
