...I have a little time before my new job starts, and I have some savings from China. So, I want to take a road trip. I just bought an old, used (but in good shape) Toyota pickup truck, and I trust Toyota to take me anywhere. I am thinking of driving to San Fransisco, then around California, then through the Southwest to see the ancient ruins, like Chaco, etc. While in California, I would like to take some surfing lessons, since surfing has always been on my list of things to try. Any advice as to where and how I could learn to surf? Also, where in the US would be the best place to try my hand at skydiving?

You will not like California. Full of fat people, buffets, and fast food chain restaurants. It'll pale in comparison to kunming. Also, syntax lives out here. If you were to run into him, and his life was even half as good as he claims, you'll probably start drinking non stop.
