On a related note, I heard something very intrersting in a recent lecture. Apparently, Neanderthals didn't really have a gender divide in their society. Their women fought and hunted just like the men.
But then we homo sapiens came along and assimilated them, and we'd developed a different way of doing things in regards to genders (which was more effective at the time). Still, it's interesting to think that things could've developed differently, and I think it goes to show that these things certainly aren't set in stone.
