Conservatives want to conserve money flow into their own wallets. Not others.
Could go on and on as I have on occasion felt that way when running a business.

basically it's a hold over from our calvinist and puritan ancestors. it's considered noble to suffer, but more noble to "pull yourself up by your own boot straps."
so these days it's looked at as people who can't aren't trying. and since suffering is "noble" they can look the other way because they'll be rewarded enough in heaven.
it's just selfishness mixed with greed and misunderstanding that is fostered by major american churches.

the dutch are calvinists and the puritans had a lot of influence on england, yet both of these countries seems to be accepting of this kind of thing
it seems much more like an american thing than a religious one
protestant conservatives in my country aren't opposed to health care by default either, like americans seems to be. this is one of the american quirks that I have trouble understanding

yeah, idrk. y'all went soft on religion and we went real hard? idk. i just know a lot of christians that feel that since they donate to church they shouldn't have to be forced to donate to the government. they see charity as the purview of religion, not gov.
but, as i point out to them i don't donate to church and never will unless forced by the government and i'm not alone. their usual response is "you'll go to hell."

Being healthy is not a benefit? I get that he wants people to have healthier lifestyles but that's not achieved by taking away their healthcare. It is not especially easy to eat/live healthy nowadays, particularly for poor people because cheap food is almost inherently shit. And even if you do lead a perfect lifestyle you are not exempt from disease.

our entire civilization's infrastructure is poisoning us. it is killing us with cancer and all kinds of preventable diseases like heart disease. instead of investing heavily in mass transit systems and by relying on cars and highways our cities are polluted and congested and killing us with lung cancers and eventually everyone basically gets emphysema (COPD). Our food is practically all nutrition-less junk because practically anything can be labeled as "food" and sold in grocery stores alongside a tiny produce section, and as long as the product was at one point a part of a living plant or animal it can be combined in a wrapper and sold at drive-throughs where everything is fried and salted to mask the taste of grade D beef. Our tap water is full of prozac and antidepressants and hormones because doctors over prescribe large quantities of drugs that are pumped into the country and get flushed down the toilet because people end up suicidal and fucking crazy and all those drugs leach out in people's piss and it all comes right back up the tap and into our fucking ice-cubes for long term storage.
we burn fuckloads of coal, we let companies use coatings and toxic substances because "low levels" are okay, and 30 years later we find out it's cancer and we let them do it with some other kind of coating. we cut down all the trees and raised global temperatures with pollution and heat is very stressful and exacerbates medical conditions, our fish are all toxic mercury repositories,
we let companies sell cigarettes and alcohol!
the way we have constructed our whole fucking society is directly causing harm to every single citizen in this country. until none of these kinds of problems exist and society itself is no longer directly responsible for the health of individuals, as soon as their own decisions are the only things that effect their health, THEN we can say it's up to the citizen individually to guarantee their own health.
but until then society as a whole has a responsibility to ensure that people have access to healthcare
