Well, that's likely due to the fact that society is much more tolerant, these days. It's safe to come out as being trans, and there are communities where such people can get support. Meanwhile, people living in a strongly Islamic country, for example, probably wouldn't be too willing to come out as gay or trans or whatever, so it's seem like there were fewer gays or transexuals in that country.
The fact that transexual issues have become more vocalised is probably also contributing to the perception that there are more of them.
Admittedly, some transexuals might not be completely geniune, but many seem to be.

yeah, but i also look at movements like furries or otherkin or whatever and wonder if maybe global warming is causing that kind of thing too.

This Syntax finds this subject difficult and much like Kook I figure if a guy is going to Cos-Play and not have nuts cut off with all that goes with it - er not even sure I need go on as I support Cath and all but its still a difficult subject for me to comprehend Unless one is born with Genetic mix ups.
