Topic: Do you think psychopaths disregard conventional morality? If so, why?

Anonymous A started this discussion 11 years ago #39,800

Like is it because they lack empathy?

Yes, but they also usually have some form of brain damage.

are you sure you aren't just bullshitting me? Do you really think they lack morality and empathy?

I really think that they lack empathy. A lot of them were abused as children, and also exhibited the serial killer triangle growing up. Bedwetting, fire starting, and abusing animals.

This is true, there's usually some brain abnormalities.

A quick google search found an article that lays it out nicely: http://psychcentral.com/news/2012/05/11/scans-show-psychopaths-have-brain-abnormalities/38540.html

What's interesting is that not all of them grow up to be derranged killers. Some go on to have successful careers and shit, since their mindset can actually give them an edge in some work and social maneuvering.

It's not necessarily a bad condition, I think. But it's crucial that the person is taught correctly, so that they can apply their mindset in a positive way and at least minimise any hurt they could cause to others.

No. Psychopaths & sociopaths simply live out the fantasies all of us have to greater of lesser degrees.

Well i read that the bed-wetting has never really been proven. But is it possible that the lack of empathy directly causes the disregard for conventional morality?

The fucking definition of a psycopath is someone who lacks empathy and morality.

They do it mostly because they can. Society favors "mild" psycopaths, these people have it easier than neurotypicals when it comes to getting the most out people.

Op, what type of response were you expecting?

Probably the other way around. They are wired to disregard common morality and tend to think simply in terms of what's beneficial or not to them, which causes to them to not develop empathy, since everything else in the world is nothing but a tool in their narcisistic little stroll through life.

Well the way i look at it, they are hard wired to not have empathy. I really don't know if that is true though.

Societies don't always have the same morality and i think its because their values can differ, but what i am getting at is that morality is learned. We feel empathy with those that we think have been
severely and wrongly treated, but it depends where you live that determines what being treated wrong is. So in a way empathy is not only feeling the feelings of others but also something that
upholds the current moral structure.

What i am getting at (again sry) is that if psychopaths really do lack empathy and also lack respect for conventional morality, then i see it as the prime example to show people that morality comes
within, it comes from our feelings.

Would a clinical psychopath make a good air-traffic control officer?

Well of course you wouldn't think it's a bad condition, given your errant moral convictions.

But it isn't inherently bad. It's all about how it's applied.

Sure, a psychopath might have problems fitting in even if they become upstanding citizens, but the point is that they needn't end up as criminals.
