The teetotalism movement was first started in Preston, England in the early 19th century. The Preston Temperance Society was founded in 1833 by Joseph Livesey, who was to become a leader of the temperance movement
HowEver he also said one could if it were Medicine. As part of my daily routine for keeping pipes clean I drink a quality beverage that harbors Alcohol. However the Medical qualities become the opposite if one has 2 many Ounces - On special occasions I break such medical rules

Mostly just on occasions, like Christmas, my birthday, or a social event. Might otherwise drink a little if I happen to have leftover ciders in the house.

That is a good point.
I think negative images of wot bad things can happen when one over does it may make a person ask - Am I going to end up as such.
Besides I with terrific GF who I later married - after a party on way home on a mountain road - Came micro inches away from falling off a cliff because of to much drink at party.
(Wood not have fallin cause it was micro inch tween my car bumper and a telephone pole - That one lesson has kept from a few drinks many a time
And loss off a best buddy who died from drinking - I always reflect on that - And others I have known who died from drink

Since I arrived in Poland it was 3-4 times a week (weekends, Wednesdays to slice up the week and sometimes a random beer on a random day).

I kill a 5L box of Franzia* over Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday morning.
Sometimes, instead of the Franzia, It will be a couple of bottles of sherry or a bottle or two of whiskey.
I've been trying to cut back, after I had a nightmare a while back that my liver had gone cirrhotic and was swollen to the size of a football.

Much less than I used to. Now it's about a drink a month.
I found that I consistently feel down and crappy the next day. I like the cultural meanings and mechanisms of drink, but my body strongly tells me that it doesn't like any type of alcohol.
This is ultimately a good thing; my mom's side of the family is full of alcoholics.

Y is it I C people pouring sherry out of fancy crystal bottles in old moves but yet have met anyone who has offered me sherry or even has a bottle of it on shelf.
I do buy sherry to cook and I use it mostly as substitute for the wine Chinese use to cook with. I have compared Spanish sherry's to the Chinese stuff (Chinese make horrid wines) So I stick with Spain for sherry.
AND Memories of GF Sherry who was mighty good eating. She had that extra special something extra to dine on/with/
