The Wikipedia article seems to suggest it is the same thing as a creator, but at the same time says it is not the same thing.

In Gnostic Christianity; the demiurge created the world but is not the creator of the universe. The demiurge is most likely satan and the god of the old testament. The God that Jesus speaks of in the New Testament is the true, benevolent God and creator of everything.

In Gnosticism the demiurge is a sort half-god creator of the material world. It's sort of a false creator god. While the demiurge contained a spark of the devine, the material world created through that devine spark is part false. I don't know... google around about Gnosticism and the demiurge for a while. There's a whole mythology about Archons and such in the the Apocryphon of John. Outside Gnosticism, Plato mentions the demiurge in a very different light in Timaeus.

So... long story short: Creator of the material world. Some see that material world as a sham and the demiurge as merely part-devine thing that thought it was fully devine and created the world but actually obfuscated the more important spiritual world from out eyes.

That is a good point - However given Chapters by Matthew Mark Luke John at least kinda let you in on who be whom re writer.
Book of Revelation written by a John but clearly not the same John of other chapters - a chapter that is worth study for when I get those knocks on door and get to play with that 144.000 limit to heaven number

Bunch of years ago I spent hobby time in study of the Book of Revelation's. Back then it was written in Greek and there are many historians who studied the Greek text speak and mostly agreed on who the John was - John uses his name in that Chapter. Some Apostle. Bottom line was/is his Greek in not the same grammar as the other more famous John
I also think I get more knocks at my door because Jews are considered far more valuable to convert then others. I take the time when I have it and have fun getting them to explain how the already 8 million of them have a major road block to Heaven when the Bible clearly says its limited to 144,000 people and the rest all end up in Armageddon. Jehovah Witnesses good for lots of lulz

As a Greek-Hebrew-Aramaic scholar and former preacher myself, I can say that there are many different theories as to the John of Revelation, and that many top notch scholars do believe it was the gospel John, while others do not. It is a deep study.

iirc there is an entire system of gods out there and one woman god gave birth to the OT god (the demiurge) in a forbidden way, but she was so ashamed she hid him in a cloud of fog where he grew up alone, and all his power came from his mother and it was barely any of it, but since he was alone he thought he was all powerful and created the earth where he posited himself as ultimate creator of everything and all powerful when actually he's a small fry
