Topic: You commit some major crime, and the court gives you an option besides the death penalty or life.

You may move to another country, any country but your own, and become a permanent, legal citizen. You may never leave that country as long as you live. Which country do you choose, and why?

What major crime did I commit?? I would think that would color which country I might choose.

No one will know anything about your crime except the judge himself. Just any major crime.

Probably Canada then. It's like the US on easy mode.

Why would you choose what some consider to be a boring, bland country?

Why would you say Canada is boring or bland?

Well, because, besides the French parts, it is mostly white people, the food is bland and boring, it is always cold, and there is not alot of culture or vivacity. It is like the US Midwest.

I would have chosen Canada as well. I know a lot of people from there.

Wouldn't this have been better if a poll was used?

A poll with every country in the world on it?

That is all pretty subjective. I'm sorry if my choice of country doesn't meet with your approval. Would it make you happier if I change my answer to Iraq and say I always wanted to go fight for ISIS or something? That's not actually true, but I'll try to spruce up my answer if you want interesting replies over honest ones.

Because it's fucking Switzerland? 3 countries in 1, lovely environment and OK gun laws for a non-USAmerican country.

New Sealand. Or maybe somewhere in Southern Europe, if I can move between countries still.

You cannot move between countries. You must remain in that new country for the rest of your life.

New Zealand then. Not overcrowded, not too spread out, lots of nature, English speaking.
The people are a calming influence out of those I have met, very likæble.

Fair enough. It is a nice place. But would you not find it a bit boring?

Can I be an ambassador? If so, then I pick California. I have an idea for a sitcom where I am the ambassador of Britain and I get involved with drugs, gangs and other shenanigans. I'll demand the British embassy be a Tesco. My sidekick will be Graham who overlooks the self-service checkout. My catchphrases will be; 'u wot m8?'and 'art thou haveth a Chuckle Brothers?'. The show shall be called 'This Never Happened in Britain'. My arch nemesis will be KS; my cider empire clashes with his meth business.
If I can't be an ambassador I choose Canada.

California is not a country. The OP also did not indicate your standard of living would change at all, so you would likely be a homeless gutter hogger in the USA where the government wont give you all the benefits youre used to.

California is a sovereign state, which is close to a country, so I will allow it. Thanks.

Canada. It's a modern, well-connected country that speaks English. I only choose it over the USA because the poltics and nutters over there might annoy me.

I ski a bunch in Canada - West Coast has terrific FRESH Seafood and on East coast of Canada terrific French Food
Canadians are also very very friendly people - HAPPY People nor is it over crowded in Canada. Very clean country. Smart Gov that does NOT allow people to buy houses unless they truly can afford2 So no major economy crash like USA or Eu has had.
Canuck economy is stable - Canada only downside is hummmmmmm not really much I can think of and Chinese food in Vancouver cause it has a huge Chinese population - Food is terrific much like San Francisco
