Not sure. The person who said it was maybe trying to controversial, it probably didn't need to be repeated.

> life isn't quite real unless they're sharing it
It think this is generally true of people both today and throughout history. People are generally social and write books to be read, perform to be seen, and, in work or play, generally need competition and social interaction to define themselves. Few people willingly choose to cut themselves off from social contact to lead a happier life.
Although today's technology means that young people are sharing more and sharing more often, I don't doubt that older generations would have gleefully done the same if the technology been in place for them at the time.

I see this a lot in the younger generation, where everything must be instagrammed or facebooked or tweeted or checked in on foursquare or god knows what the latest thing is. I know people who cannot have a cup of coffee without taking a photo of it and uploading it as if to say "HEY LOOK AT ME IM HAVING A CUP OF COFFEE THIS IS SPECIAL AND INTERESTING SOMEONE PLEASE RETWEET AND LIKE THIS AND VALIDATE ME!!!!!" It's annoying as fuck. I think "sharing" was meant in the context of social networking, not literally sharing.

People where I work Snapchat constantly. They'll be like "Eating soup, lol" or "Watching a good movie!"

Social media will be the death of humanity. A horrible, slow, agonizingly painful death.
