Topic: I hope I never get set in my ways and beliefs.
Catherine !TGirlYJKXM started this discussion 11 years ago#39,386
I do not want to become like how many people view their elders.
I do not want to be stuck to my ways and be against change.
Especially since change is a part of life.
I've been trying to cut back on the nostalgia for this very reason.

I know it is for some people. I apologize if I triggered you. Aside from the physical health issues, I personally feel that alcoholism has enhanced my life.

Most of the greatest artists in history were alcoholics, though.

Some nostalgia is fine, as long as it's not too much. So much that you view anything afterwards as automatically inferior.

Is that nostalgia? That sounds more like a tradition. Isn't nostalgia juat having a fondness for things your experienced earlier in life?

Yes, it is. Nostalgia is harmless: it is a mere longing for one's personal past.

can't help it, it will happen. one day you'll hear about something "kids" are into and you'll be confused as to "why that's even a thing." you'll not like it, think it's stupid, and you'll complain about it.
shit just happens

How do you prevent this or become God?

what? i said you can't help it. it is unavoidable, like, as in "you can't prevent this." just understand that it happens, so if older people "don't get you" or whatever just give them a free pass to gripe about it because one day that old crotchety curmudgeon will be you.

This will happen Cathy. One day you will hear a song and think "My God what is that noise??" or see some kid dressed in a new fashion and think that kids dress like idiots. It won't be a passing observation either; you will actually be angry at other people for being stupid enough to like these things. The important part is to, I believe, realize that this means you are getting old and set in your ways, let that feeling go, and tell that little voice in your head to shut up and stop judging. Also, try to not limit that reaction to pop culture things like fashion trends or music, but be aware of it when you make judgments about others' choices and philosophy.

Allright, nobody else confused by the "become God" part. Cathy's aspirations for godhood are apparently common knowledge, then.

Yes. Cathy actually used to be Marduk in another time loop and is seeking a way to re-attain godhood. She feels she is a god born into a human body. She has stated this many times. It's part of GID, or godhood identity disorder. (although we're moving to get this removed from the DSM as a disorder)

I didn't find it odd at all. When I have drunk too much I sometimes think I am a god, but then I wake up in the morning that I am just a drunk man.

wait, what's weird about it? we're all god locked in human form. there's no becoming god though, since we all already god. there is only awakening. we are individually cut off by physical barriers, much like our minds are cut off from awareness when we sleep. "awakening" from this state of unawareness is what it will take to "become god."

awakening can't happen though. that's what the big bang was all about. we literally exploded. well, we as in "god" exploded and fractured into more parts than anything the human mind can comprehend, and all those parts function together as the universes we each experience individually.
there's a lot of math involved actually.

But Awakening did happen. I played it not too long ago. It was very good, definitely Dragon Age: Origin's best DLC.
