Well, the Bible has similar horrible things in it too, but we understand that modern Christians are not all like that. So what about Islam?

That is very disturbing. Would you say, then, that Islam is a great threat to world peace?

If these issues are not tackled in western countries, as they are not at the moment, for fear of being called racist, a bigot etc. then yes. We must be able to criticize Islam in the same way we do to Christianity, like in the gay marriage debate, where the hard-line Christians who tried to stand in the way of the freedoms we expect in a democratic society were ridiculed, and rightly so. Until people stop saying "it's not all Muslims" after every event like this, Islam will continue to be a threat.

Terrorism implies unwarranted, preemptive aggression. These plaestinians feel like that because their family and children have been slaughtered by Israel.

If it was slaughtering of Israeli soldiers, then sure, but supporting the slaughter of innocent children is pretty much the definition of terrorism.

It's not precisely Islam itself that is promoting the violence, rather, it's the culture(s) and people behind it. While, yes, their religion is their main justification, it's not the underlying problem that needs to be addressed. Most religions can be used to promote violent acts, if a certain type of person is following it.
Christianity, for example, has also been used to justify horrible things in the past. But then the culture of western societies became more progressive, and the more extreme actions associated with the religion were abandoned. Likewise, we're seeing evidence of this in modern Muslim countries. Some are allowing women to drive, some have fledgling feminist movements in them. Progressivism can happen there too, and override the extreme parts of their religion.
So, IMO, the way to beat Islamic terrorism in the long-run is to win "the culture war", and introduce progressivism to Islamic societies. I think that this is a war that is being won, but, as Anon C's statistics indicate, there's still a while to go with that.

This. Also in the middle ages, Christianity was in the dark ages and Islam was the progressive, tolerant, peaceful religion (at least by contemporary standards). We have the Muslim world to thank for innumerable advances in astronomy, chemistry, mathematics, and medicine. The fact that Islam is currently going through a dark age doesn't mean it's inherently more or less violent than the other middle East religions.

They hate us for our freedom, right? Good thing we keep arming and funding our only ally in the Middle East.

ive read the koran and there isnt a single mention of muhammad being mercyful or nice, the entire book is just him going from location to location killing everyone
if you think i am trolling you can look it up for yourself...
i dont get islam, i dont hate muslims but i do not really believe in god anyways
but i am confused as to why they would believe in a prophet that did nothing but kill everyone
and then talk about how wonderful their religion is

muslims were not responsible for the creation of all maths, chemistry, or medicine
and i think if muslims did not exist, these things would have been figured out anyways
certainly mathematics, they invented algebra and they say that a lot...//but i dont really use algebra in my day to day life
the only time i did algebra was in high school

No more or less than the other Abrahamic religions
The difference is that the strict Muslims live in or otherwise become immersed in the Arabian culture which is historically very violent (and was before Islam)
