that's cool. i wish i had the ambition to mess with making software related things.
i would totally make a super controversial VR game that puts you in morally questionable scenarios and asks you to do things that would normally be a violation of your conscience. since VR is so immersive i wonder if a GTA type game would make people uncomfortable enough to not follow intended game mechanics.

so like the call of duty level where you watch a bunch of civilians be mowed down was skippable, i wonder if a game that asks you to electrocute a crying prisoner or something would be an uncomplete-able mission for some people.

You should make Hotline Miami in vr.

meh, it's easier to just hope someone else does.

> hope
give it 5, maybe 10 years. someone will do it, or something similar.

oh yeah, i was trying to remember the game i thought my mom would like (she is NOT even remotely a gamer) and it was a game about pets.

my mom gets vertigo easily so games where you move she can't play. she would need a stationary game. so i figure a game where her avatar is seated on a couch interacting with magical pet creatures would be right up her alley. so, something like a digital living room or backyard and a small flying dragon that you can throw steak to and it'll do tricks. or like a talking dog with speech recognition software so you can ask it to do tricks and it'll come back with zingers instead or something. a pygmy elephant that dances. idk. but that kind of thing.

i bet it wouldn't be hard to pull off actually. well above any technical proficiency i have though.

it's also an easy idea and i doubt i'm the first or last person to think of something like that so i figure "interactive companion games" will be a thing. possibly a whole genre, actually, since companions in games are already getting to be pretty sophisticated it's only a matter of time before the companion is made the focus of the entire game mechanics.

yeah, i don't really follow console games so i don't know. but yeah, i'm not surprised that idea is already out there in some form.

it is not that difficult trust me, anyone can do it even if you are a fucking retard

it has been a dream of mine to ascent and become a being that exists only as digital sources in these environments, the future is now, you should all be happy this is happening right now! it is a great time to be alive

but in terms of working with all of that stuff

its very easy...

blender > unity3D > rift sdk or even their MHD or whatever they're calling that type of hardware now, mhd sounds good

you do not even need to know how to program

it goes like this basically.... you create your environment in blender (which is also easy...) and you import it into unity3D and place your camera...unity 3D has native oculus rift support but blender does not but im sure they are working on it, userscript

that is not what most people understand, this technology is very very easy and theoretically we are no longer limited in terms of what the human mind can accomplish, i think the next stage of human evolution is going to be merging with technology in some way though i dont think physically, i think within 100 years we will have mapped the human brain and will have reached a stage in which we upload our consciousness to the "web"

i have many theories surrounding this, they are not that crazy seeing the paths we are going down, i do not think the "next leap forward" will be us going into space and touching upon the outreaches of the universe, i think eventually "humans" will exist as pure consciousness, in which we can choose to connect to other nodes, of which exist these different realities, which we are already starting to create!!!

i've played with, like, touched on, quite a lot of "professional" software in my time and have some experience with programs like Lightwave and Maya. I have also recently messed with the CryEngineSDK and was going about editing preexisting scenes and messing with default stuff like AI patrols and whatever else. I didn't get deep into it, but i did attempt to do something like replace the player avatar with a different one. There's tons of walk throughs and thorough ones that detailed how to make, and then replace the default avatar. with enough walkthroughs i could eventually create a custom scene, animations, characters. I took some 3d modelling and animation classes at a community college for fun a few years ago and learned some of this stuff on Lightwave. but since i was doing it "survey" it was just for fun and i didn't take it seriously.

then there was the whole part about scripting things, and there is a whole other level of, uh, stuff you can do, tools you can make, things you can do, that you can really only do if you know the language. I don't, and it's not that i can't learn, it's that i don't really want to. When it comes down to it i don't want to spend my time doing these things. As cool as i think it might be, it's a grass is always greener kind of thing. once i get on that side of the fence i find out it's not really where i want to be.

you can reverse engineer the sdk, thats how i learned anyways and frankly thats how i learn most of everything that i know, at least when it comes to software
