I'm just saying that he probably thinks that people trying to shut him down is a sign of him being on the right track as much as people not trying to shut him down is a sign of him being on the right track, and I'm trying to explain his rationalization of these two, seemingly mutally exclusive, beliefs. Most conspiracy nuts' thinking goes something like: "If they try to silence me, then I am right. If they don't try to silence me, then they don't want to draw attention to the fact I need to be silenced so I am right."
Also, don't think I'm saying all Libertarians are nutjobs. It's just that a lot of wacky government conspiracy types seem to be drawn to the LP. (probably because of its minimal government stance) The Libertarian Party does have sensible people with rational ideas. Every party has their wacky fringe types. (Which are usually over-represented at national conventions) I just think the LP has some of the more wackier fringe members.

It's definitely a "heads I win, tails you lose" scenario. Probably Libertarians in general are more stigmatized and scrutinized because they question the state, which I think is the heresy of our time. To give an example, liberals and conservatives can passionately debate whether or not gay marriage or marijuana should be legalized, but to say that the state has no role in drugs or marriage at all goes beyond the limits of Serious Debate™. Liberals and conservatives, or Democrats and Republicans are, from my point of view much like Lutherans and Catholics. Supposed polar opposites, who have spilled incalculable volumes of ink and blood over their differences but, in the grand scheme of things are quibbling over minor doctrinal technicalities. It's fine to argue over whether or not the communion cracker literally is the body of Christ or just symbolic of such, but to advocate Taoism and deny God and Jesus and the rest of it outright is heretical. > Every party has their wacky fringe types.
