The woman shops at Wal-Mart carrying a bible, a flag, and a concealed loaded gun with the safety off like all good American moms.

Will the toddler be charged with homicide?

I'm guessing she left the safety off which is a bad move. Extremely tragic, that kid is gonna have issues when s/he grows up :(

A lot of modern firearms don't have the traditional manual safety. If the purse wasn't designed to carry a gun then she should of had it in snap holster, if it was a semi-auto she could have elected to not have it chambered, having a firearm chambered is fine for self defense but if it isn't secured on your person or in an appropriate holster it is a disaster waiting to happen, and of course the firearm should never have been accessible to the child.

I've been around them growing up, lots of target shooting as a kid with .22 cal rifles and airguns mainly. I'm not like obsessed with them nor do I think they're the root of all evil or anything. I guess you could say I'm ambivalent about them.

It doesn't say in the article so it's anyone's guess really. I'm surprised a two year old could hold the gun and pull a double action (guessing here) trigger.

i call loose handgun in purse, probably holstered. probably a glock. a little one with a single action. those are notorious for misfires due to unholstering them. probably the little tyke got his hand into the purse and it misfired when he was pulling on it. sad.

well glocks are super common and the term "glock leg" stems from the fact that they are super common and can easily discharge in the holster since they don't have a manual safety. it's also common in the "concealed carry crowd" to carry guns without safeties and glocks are small, cheap, and preferred by many women. small glock, chambered round, holstered in purse, discharged when mishandled.

really guns aren't things you just toss in your purse with your keys and forget about. That gun could have gone off in her purse if she just carried it around absentmindedly like that. it was extremely irresponsible. luckily no one else was hurt.

What I wonder is why she felt the need to carry a gun in Northern Idaho. It's not exactly Chicago or Oakland.

She was in Walmart. Isn't that normal?

No, Walmart is just a reflection of the local area. Walmarts in the ghetto are, well, ghetto and Walmarts in nice areas are nice.

So... Letting people freely purchase guns sure seems to have its downsides. Just an observation.

Might not have been stock and had a light trigger pull which would've made it easier. Who knows though.

Apparently she was a gun enthusiast slash nuclear scientist so she should've known better regardless.

@521,258 (squeegee)
If the trigger snags on something, sure it can go off. It wouldn't go off in a holster unless it's being put into one and catches on something or the user has their finger on the trigger while attempting to holster it. When people get glock leg it's because they're being careless.

If it was in a retention or snap holster it wouldn't fall out. If it's a friction holster I can imagine it happening.
