My cats are literally destroying my house and everything I own. Is it cruel to declaw them? People say it is cruel, but why? How would they ever even know? They are not self-aware, sentient humans.

It's literally the removal of the tips of their fingers
If your furniture is worth more to you than your cats, then you shouldn't have cats
Cover your furniture, put sticky pads up, get glue on nail caps, or clip your cats nails
It's especially cruel to declaw an adult cat

no way i'm keeping furniture as long as an animal can live. Any idea how disgusting and beat up 10-15 year old furniture can get? Especially fabric and leather furniture, you'll get tears, broken springs, squished cushions, smells, they can get pretty bad especially if you don't take really good care of your stuff. plus it gets outdated and everyone likes to refresh their look every now and again. i mean Goodwill is in existence for a reason.

There are probably ways to train your cats to not claw things. Just do some research, there's no need to take such a radical step.

They are literally shredding apart my walls, all my furniture, they broke expensive electronics, knock dishes, glasses, and expensive wine bottles to the floor, tore up my carpet, broke my toilet, shredded up my bed, etc. They have destroyed my entire life.

And did you do the research? I literally just googled "cat claw training" and found a few good articles discussing the problem and how to deal with it. It basically seems to boil down to "buy a scratching post, praise/reward when they use it, punish when they don't".

None of that works. They have *SIX* scratching posts throughout the house, a giant cat tree that cost a ton and reaches to the ceiling, dozens of toys, etc. They will prefer to shred up my expensive sofa.

I had my cats declawed (front claws only) when they were kittens. I feel pretty bad about it now that I know more about what it involves, and I don't think I'd do it to future cats.
I think it's even worse to do it once they're older. Kittens adapt pretty quickly, at least. How old are your cats?
