But I can't be bothered waiting in line for the instore wrappers and they do a rushed and shitty job anyway. I get plenty of spare paper because I often have to have a couple of goes at wrapping things.

What? Even our version of walmart has a wrapping counter after the checkouts for a gold coin donation. Fancy shops do it for free.
