yes, but in fiction there was an AI uprising hundreds of years ago and now AI is illegal, but there are droids. but there are more like appliances than humanoids. think robotic fork lifts and modern day drones.

yes. yes you can. you could hire an ai to fly as escort or work as crew on your ship. you'll be able to do something like be the admiral of a small fleet of ships that are either npc or player controlled.

unknown, but every component such as coolers, weapons, power supplies, can be tuned or overclocked for different reasons. there will be some level of "programming" but it might be more like editing fields in an xml to achieve different results than actual c+ coding or whatever. this is all still being concepted. if you have cool ideas go share them on the forums, maybe the devs will use them.

You're not going to believe this, but I literally only play DOOM (the original '90s ones), Perfect Dark (via emulator now that my N64 is long gone) Tomb Raider 1-5, Deus Ex (the original 2000 one), and GTA III-SA. I'm stuck in a kind of gaming arrested development, where I only really enjoy games from my adolescence. Needless to say, unless Squeegæ can hop in sK's DeLorean and take a copy of Star Citizen back to 1998 or so, I won't be playing it :(
DOOM is of course my favorite. I first played it at age 9, and I've been in love with it ever since.
I feel utterly divorced from modern gaming, and I'll be playing with my very limited selection of now very old games long into the future.

ah, too bad you didn't play Wing Commander or Privateer or Freelancer back then. Those are all Chris Roberts games and they are the Spiritual Predecessors of Star Citizen. That's why i'm primarily interested in it, i loved Privateer and always wanted to run around space stations and planets and ships instead of just looking at clickable scenes like they did back then. Wing Commander was the first game i ever used a Joystick with.

Modern gaming has produced some great stuff, some of it quite similar to the older games that you enjoy. I don't know any specifics, but I'm sure that some indie games have been made that've very much in the same vein as your preferred games.
But then, if you're content just playing those games, that's cool too.
