Autómata: it's a movie that has cool robots in it. It's not totally sci-fi, but i guess you'd call it that. It's kind of in the same vein as Interstellar, there's a huge problem and humanity turns to technology for their answer for better or worse. It has Antonio Banderas in it and some pretty cool robots. it's kind of like blade runner in more than one way, but instead of human looking androids the bots are vaguely humanoid appliances. don't expect it to be wonderful or terribly deep, and you'll maybe facepalm a time or two, but maybe not. solid B, but would not watch again. once was enough.
Predestination: okay, so if you liked movies like Looper and Memento then this will be right up your alley. I won't give anything away here, just if you watch it don't skip forward to "see if it looks good," just watch it without knowing much about it. It has a pretty interesting hook at the beginning which makes you want to watch more, but then it slows down a bit with a seemingly unrelated internal narrative kind of thing, but by the halfway mark it picks up and delivers a pretty satisfying ending. it's pretty clever, hard to figure out, has some good characters, and wraps up nice and neatly. B+ because more than once i was caught off-guard by unexpected "stuff", early on i was like, "yeah, that was not a hard one to figure out" (you'll know what i mean when you see it) but then later i was like, "wait, what? i totally was expecting the more obvious resolution," and then try and figure out if it was all internally consistent. i think it is, but it's a head scratcher. it all makes sense though, but you'll see why they named the movie what they did.
