And why was it believed?

Rufus is ebony black
with fur so shiny and sleek
and golden eyes so loving
and a personality so unique.
He comes when he is called
and leaps upon your lap,
then he curls up in a ball
and takes a little nap.
His meow is musical.
You should hear his purr
so sweet and every bit as soft
as his beautiful, silky fur.
He uses his scratching post
and not the sofa or chair.
He always has lots of love
to unselfishly share.
He appreciates his meals
and poses for a picture or two.
Many other black cats are like him.
I know this to be very true.
He plays with his toys
in an entertaining way
He’ll wake up from a dead sleep
and be ready to play
He knows which toys are his
and remembers where they are
He knows how to put on a show.
He’s a true superstar.
Some folks still believe
that black cats are mean.
Must be my sweet Rufus,
they have never seen.
Black cats are mysterious
Elegant ,and full of grace,
You can’t help but fall in love
when you look in their face.
So why the superstitious untruth?
Why the ancient, silly falsehood?
I say just the opposite.
All black cats are good!

I once had a black cat run across the street as I was driving on Halloween and almost ran him/her over. I could have sworn that I would have bad luck forever, but good luck ended up coming my way and still is.
