There is no such thing as zero gravity. Just words that someone applied to the experience of floating in space or on earth where temporary low gravity is simulated.
Orbital free fall - Huge volume of physics books cover this topic. Use search term Orbital Mechanics to look for dissertations of or perhaps a wiki on

Again its word play not physics when Zero gravity and orbital free fall are discussed or written about in text. Its even difficult for me to use Zero but since you did I will as well.
I believe Einstein used Thought experiments to explain Gravity b4 he put pen to paper. Turns out most of the math people see that is attributed to Einstein is the work of others because Einstein did not do all that well in school albeit on a scale of top mathematicians he was just shy and towards last in class. Class of course consisted of very sharp Physicists.

That is a most excellent question. If you have a spare $5000 you can find out for yourself. Actually you can get a sense of it for much less money but if you want to float free like you see astronauts - then its going to be the 5K

Lots of countries have modified aircraft to study low to wot is called Zero Gravity. I have only experienced it for about 15 or so seconds on a KC-135A. I signed up on a list and waited months the first time I got a go at it. Anyone working in my dept could and many said no way. Frankly I found it weird/disorientated. Wanted it to end the first time. 2nd same but when that plane did it over and over I got sorta used to it but STILL was happy to have feets on floor! So its 15 or a few more seconds and you get to do it over n over n over - Nothing like the thrills of Roller Coasters that do put you in2 super low G's from Super High G's but of course u are strapped in.

This is for a poster who goes by The Asshole

He was requesting that I yes Me post about my Satellites. Fact is most people have learned to change channels or turn pages or close book or open another but The Asshole is not mature nuff to do such.

So back to Gravity and orbital free fall

Consider the case of my Satellites or any Satellite. One wants the Orbit to be an Exact Something You want to know exactly where it is nor does anyone including Govs have equipment to locate them if they drift away from where they are expected to be. We all have to depend on NORAD to keep track and report back if our Satellites drift away from where we expect them to be.

So consider the following - Every planet every star every moon of every planet every Black hole - they all exert gravitational forces which directly effect small bodies in space. Moons gravity and Sun make Ocean waves for instance. Nor are any planet/starts totally round/spherical. Planets are not perfectly spherical and they all have uneven mass distribution. These fluctuations have an effect on a spacecraft's trajectory. The effects are slight but over time unless the gravitational forces are considered, one cannot expect to have Satellites maintain selves without excess fuel burn to keep them where they need b.

Nor do I do those kind of calculations. That is Orbital science stuff that only huge data basis have wot is needed and the processing in hours of Supercomputer time. The data bases of course contain static information - Our Sun when it spews out mass of gases in wot you wood call Sun Spots - That can make minor movements of Satellites. Usually the on board Gyro's and Wheels - Large spinning Momentum Wheels under microcomputer control can make the necessary corrections without the need to burn fuel. The blasts of X-rays n Nuke particles can cripple short term or end up as long term damage.

You could be in a book all the way to the end of Orbit Physics and still not have a sense of in orbit vs not in orbit. Of course the only real difference is TIME

Within our solar system you're pretty much always in orbit around something, all of the body's their gravitational pulls will still be affecting you. Now, you may be going fast enough to have reached this orbit's escape velocity so you will soon move into another orbit, or maybe even reach the escape velocity of our sun and leave our solar system. But, there is no atmosphere there. Thus I assume the difference between being in orbit and not being are minimal, except that with one you move in an ellipsis around a body, and the latter you move away from it.

I told OP he could experience free floating. I did not pay for it as I was on salary at the time so it was a paid for experience. Really of Zero value in my daily work. In no way could I apply that experience to the work I do. My time wood have been better spent in an amusement park on roller coasters. Its a damn good thing you're not OP

No not at all. Currently that is. Can be in future if I were willing to take a huge cut of hourly fee (not about 2 make that mistrake) NASA takes advantage of a USGov rule - if you cut fee for one program they expect that fee to be fee for all else.
