Really, most people use those terms interchangeably in casual conversation. There is a technical difference, yes. But they're still aware of their difference. They still know they weren't born female.

Additionally, your metaphor does not work. Skin colour is just that, skin colour. It hinges on one very simple factor. Gender identity is more complex. It isn't just one's genitals, it's how a person's brain is made up.

Serious question: why can't race dysphoria and transracialism be real things? If someone can be born into a male body, and identify as a female, why can't someone be born into a white body, and identify as black or Asian? Why not a race change operation with hair treatment, name change, skin coloring, voice/dialect training and cosmetic surgery?

I wasn't saying it couldn't, Meta. I'm only arguing the way I am because Buspuppie is using a faulty comparison to try and dismiss gender dysphoria as being somehow "invalid". Identifying as another race does not work in the same way as gender dysphoria, gender dysphoria having biological causes. Meanwhile "race dysphoria" would, presumably, come from environmental influences.
But, to address your point, no reason a person can't do that if they feel strongly about it. Freedom, and all that. But personally I would find it to indicate a worrying mindset. Race doesn't matter that much. Or, at least, it shouldn't.

I'm sure it does, on some corner of Tumblr. But I would imagine its lack of prevalence is because of cultural attitudes on race. Usually, the norm is an "us and them" mindset.

Like what? Other than the facial recognition effect I mentioned earlier I can't find any mention of differences in function, structure, or chemistry that are particular to race. I have never heard of brain science studies controlling for race. Sex? Yes some need to control for that. Handedness? Yes, often that too. Race? Nope.
