ugh, it's pretty awful. Makes me dizzy and nauseous and sleepy as fuck. i wish they'd quit trying to "fix" pain meds and just prescribe me hydrocodone, it works and doesn't have all these nastier side effects. but, Oh no, some people abuse it and can get slightly high, better make a drug that makes you feel worse than if you didn't take it.
and i was hardly able to function at work today, they sent me home early :(
that never happened when i'd have to take narcotic pain meds. and someone had to drive me home because i was not cool to drive! it was pretty terrible.

You should probably complain to your doctor or find a new one. Unless you have a history of narcotic (that is opioid, not the broader and confusing legal usage of narcotic) abuse, there shouldn't be much of a problem prescribing you an actual pain killer and not an SNRI. Seriously, when you fuck around with your brain chemistry like that the drugs don't just take effect "where it matters" but throughout your brain and nervous system. (that is, all the other pieces of your central nervous system that rely on serotonin or norepinephrine are feeling the effects) It is probably not a great idea to continue that treatment if it is making you feel like that. If you keep taking the tramadol, then you may adjust to the effects. But the longer you take it the more you are fucking around with your production of these neurotransmitters (or neuromodulators if you like) and you may have additional problems weening yourself off the medication.
Optional personal question: Why are you being treated for pain with something as strong as that? Is it chronic pain or is this a temporary thing?

i'm getting a crown on a tooth replaced and i've got a temporary one for two weeks (it's gold, it's pretty boss) and the dr thought it'd be painful and that maybe i'd end up needing a root canal. it's not really all that painful, it was yesterday after they removed the old crown and did all the prep work and make the impression. Also it was sore today, but it's getting better and so i think i won't need the root canal and i probably won't be taking any more pain killers for it.

Wow, maybe just explain your reaction to tramadol to your dentist and ask for something else? Are you taking any other drugs? (your dentist should have asked you this and looked for interactions, obviously) Oxys and norcos are pretty available street-level, so maybe that's an option. As long as you feel that you aren't going to become a pain-pill addict, you should probably try to find a medication that doesn't alter your brain chemistry for the worse and make you feel like shit.

Go Castaway on that shit. Doctors are the same way around here in my experience, you ain't getting the good dope no matter how bad you need it. It's total bullshit. I can remember getting good pain meds as a kid, but dope feigns have ruined it for everyone else.

what? that i wish they'd quit prescribing drugs with a bunch of nasty side effects over one with very few? they are both equally addictive, but according to the web Tramadol "may have" a lower incidence of abuse becuase of the dizzyness and nausea.
so they gave me medicine that makes me feel worse than if i hadn't taken it and i wish they'd give me medicine that works and doesn't make me ill.

also, i'm from the Darvocet days when they'd give you that shit instead of vicoden becuase "omg addicts" and that shit made me really, really sick and ended up being taken off the market here.
i'm tired of them trying to invent an addictionless pain med and failing to even deliver on the pain relief let alone do it with less severe side effects than narcotic pain killers.

Tramadol is an awful drug. I was prescribed it following heart surgery. As a painkiller it does precisely what it says on the pack, but it is very addictive. I was on 4 a day, a quite light dose, and I had terrible withdrawal symptoms that took me 4 weeks plus to overcome once the drug was stopped (progressively).
