Why do people worship the military? Some troops are drafted against their will, and the others join for various reasons, only some of which are noble. Rich, old, white, fat politicians start wars to steal resources, and young men have to go and die, and often, to kill villages-full of innocent men, women, children, and babies, laughing the whole time. So exactly what are we "remembering" today?

I appreciate the fact that they fulfilled obligations. However, like many Americans, I hate war, and I feel that anyone who contributes to the war machine is fundamentally wrong.

I hate war. It's disgusting and awful. I still respect the sacrifices of people who've gone to war. In fact, what I hate most of all about war is what it does to veterans.
You're just an utter coward, sitting fat and drunk behind a keyboard, safely out of reach of your creditors in your third-world shithole but still bawing about how other people have the nerve to a) do something meaningful with their lives, b) actually fulfill their obligations, or even just c) bother to respect that other people's life goals and values include things besides pedophilia, 10-year-old Internet feuds, or shitty wine.

My grandpa was a WWII veteran, he didn't kill anybody, he didn't want to kill anybody, and he didn't even want to be in the war. Grandpa was drafted and instead of running away or some shit, he shipped out and served the cause. He was stationed on some island in the pacific and their job was to maintain a single shitty runway. A few times a week a light Japanese bomber would swing by and bomb the runway, they never shot at the pilot, and the pilot never tried to bomb them. Eventually it got so the pilot would fly so low they'd wave at each other. Just some people in that time, and in that place doing their jobs. Not inhuman murderers or any such shit.
War can be for the greater good, and decent people might be called upon to kill for the greater good. Shit isn't black and white all the time.
