I know most people these days just pull out their cell phones to tell time, but I've always liked watches. Ever since I could remember I've always owned several. I would honestly feel more naked without my watch than without my pants. I've always found fishing around in my pocket for the cell phone, hitting the little button to turn it on so I can read the time, then hitting the little button again to turn it off, then putting it back into my pocket to be a cumbersome affair when I could just tilt my wrist a bit and read the time off one of my wristwatches, which are always on. There's really no substitute for a nice watch.

YES! It is also a compass if you know how to read it! If you're not aware of local landmarks, tracking the sun, or aware of the stars and their rising and setting that season, a watch can be used to find direction during the day.

I never liked wearing watches. Had some nice ones in the past, and got 1 back at home, but 99% of the time they've been collecting dust. Even if I got over the uncomfortable feeling of wearing them, they are a huge hazard at the skatepark. You don't wanna hang up with your wrist watch onto something while crashing...

I like watches, but I work with my hands a lot and watches are always getting caught up on shit and breaking or just being a hazard in general. Someday I'm gonna buy a nice watch and only wear it at certain times.

They're alright but I've never gotten into the habit of wearing one. Might invest in a $20 waterproof digital watch someday, but this is not that day.

I have a spendy watch that looks nice, but I wore it every day for three or four years and it got a little beat up. It's a Casio that probably cost about $600. I've switched my daily watch to a $45 Timex with a digital face and velcro band. It's simple and expendable.

Nah, never got into wearing one. I just check my iPod when I want the time. Personally, I just don't see much point in a separate device to tell time when an item that I always have on me anyway can do it.
I did briefly have a watch as a kid, though. It beeps at 11:00pm, for some reason, and still does so to this day.

@510,711 (C)What kind of watch do you usually wear? I wear either a black Seiko 5 or a Casio G Shock most days. I also own an Invicta Chronograph, a Swatch Diaphane Automatic, and a Russian Molnija pocket watch.

They really do live up to the hype. I've had mine 5 years and it looks very good still. This is despite being worn in the shower, swimming, working, being knocked into walls and dropped. It's the only watch I never have to worry about. Automatically sets itself to NIST time and is solar powered.

I've never heard of a Casio that expensive. Do you remember what model it was? I had a digital Timex when I was 7 or 8 and loved the hell out it. It's long gone, now, but it was a great watch!

I'm sorry you found it uncomfortable. The plastic strap really isn't anywhere near as flexible as leather. It took me a while to get used to on mine (pic related).

For me it's the convenience and increased durability of a watch. Also a watch is always on, and the batteries last several years.

I've looked into them but I'm not sure what I'd do with one. I never make phone calls, so that's out and no one ever texts me so that's out, too. And the screen is too small for web browsing :/

I really do like Casios. I've owned many.
Oh also, I set all digital watches, phone, tablet, and computer to 24 hour time because I personally like it a lot better. The AM/PM thing pisses me off and is wrong on a very, very deep level.
I also hate it when people say "hurr military time" when they ask the time and I tell them it's 21:19. It's just more logical to call the 21st hour of the day 21 o'clock, and the 9th hour of the day 9 o'clock. It's much less ambiguous.

I'm not sure yet, but I was looking at watches just a few days ago and I'll probably start with something very easy to read and cheap. I'm not gonna invest in a decent watch until I'm sure I'll actually wear it.

Used to. There came a point where having hands inside electronic guts and quality metal watches just were dangerous. I have a drawer filled with them. ALL with batteries dead.Years ago had a watch with metal band on - Reached across a an open box of mean as Fuc* power electronics - with 4 tubes as in photo. Power supply was 3-phase transformer and my watch band struck all three terminals of the transformer - Metal exploded all over the place. Hardly any visible burn on wrist - never wore a watch after that event except on unique business trips.

Have yet to shop at a walmart $10 you say? Its about $3.99 to get a new battery in one of my dead watches and need one for a long days event coming up in Dec. Not going to carry a smartphone so I think I wood rather buy something new that can be throw away when done with it - Now I have a reason to try a WalMart

This one. I generally always have it on during the day, and this watch is cheap enough not to have to worry about dinging up at work. It's simple and easy to read. You can backlight the whole face by pressing the knob, so I'm not struggling to read it in the dark. I've owned two of these so far, and the first one lasted me through maybe a decade of wear before an unfortunate incident with an iron gate trashed it pretty thoroughly.
