No poll. Speak up here. Once this post is two days old I'll make a decision. Use your primary UID (but feel free to post anonymously) to post in this thread, the opinions of any band-new users will probably be ignored because sockpuppets etc. You are also welcome to speak out why you think they should be banned, but I think the reasons are pretty well established by now.
Both Matt & Syntax are obviously not welcome in this discussion.

Honestly, I like Matt's posts about 30% of the time, and that's more than I can say for a lot of users here. And I don't think I've ever read a full Syntax post, but I'm sure they're okay sometimes too.

I think I'll remove the captcha for reports for established accounts at least, no idea if that helps any but might lower the barrier a bit.

Short of banning them both, an alternative might be to ban just Matt. On balance, he's worse. Syntax is usually tolerable without having around Matt to feud with, Matt on the other hand posts schtick no matter what. Though just banning Matt might be a bit of a double standard (if you care), since they've both shitposted a lot.
But otherwise, yeah, ban them both.

It was (and currently is). It's too bad it doesn't work very well. It would work better if people reported the shitposts upon first seeing them instead of replying to them. Reports notify the mods active on IRC and cause a persistent notification on the site, so they are usually dealt with quickly.

The thing is, Matt's few decent posts always come at the price of several schtick posts and associated drama. I'm pretty sure this will always be the case, since, you know, this has happened a fair few times before.
It just doesn't seem worth the trade-off. He needs constant supervision and moderating to be decent, and even that only works for so long.

Maybe leave the decision up to them. Every time they talk to each other or about each other (even a hint or reference to each other) they can earn a progressively longer ban, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and so on. If they can't get their shit in line, that's their choice and their problem. Eventually the bans will very long, and they can only blame themselves. Lay down the ground rules and stick to them no matter what. They'll either cut the shit or be gone.

I was thinking a change in deletion policy where any derailment by them (and all replies to it) is subject to deletion on sight, even if its been replied to. Violation of the thread derailment and the KIIOTPT policy could be responded to by setting images they don't like to all their posts, and bans of increasing length.
I've just about had it with Matt. I think he should be put on probation: if he breaks KIIOTPT once or derails a single thread for the remainder of this calendar year, China should be banned for 6 months.
Syntax, I feel, has behaved better than Matt (albeit still badly) and should be put on notice that no shit will be tolerated from him either.

The only issue I have with syntax, is his 5000 word stories. I don't read them, and even though he has been warned about the sewage issues here, he just goes to TC and relieves his frustration there by shitpposting about china and sewage there.

Eh, I'm skeptical about temporary bans. I think that it might discourage them for a while, but I'm certain that one of them would inevitably break the ceasefire in short order and start it all over again. They just seem to be too enthusiastic about arguing with each other.

Ooo, or an even better idea, allow them to post whenever they like, but, when they DO post they get an Auto-ban so that the mods would need to unban them to allow them to post again (and receive another auto-ban.) That way they'll always get banned for shitposting, but they'll also get unbanned if they AREN'T shitposting. Everyone is happy.

Has Syntax been banned for any reasonable length of time here though? I think it's only fair that he gets knocked down a peg or two because he's become a complete asshat and needs to chill out.
