Where the fuck is in between?

I'm quite fond of dry heat.

I'm going to go with hot. (And, yeah, where the fuck is "in between"??) I'm quite fond of dry heat, but I'd love to live in the Pacific Northwest. So, I dunno. Phoenix, AZ or Portland, OR... The weather in Arizona (and the sunsets) rock my world. The clear desert skies are amazing! The all-around climate in Oregon also rocks my world (but the lack of visibility of pretty much ANY celestial event is a big turn off though.)

I also have that problem here. Usually its the Marine layer that blocks out most celestial events. Fog also Luv the foggy mornings to run in but at nite it blocks out stars and I have to travel about 45 miles east for meteor showers

OC here. It's usually light pollution from the LA basin that fucks up most of my celestial events, so my northern sky is pretty much gone. :( The south is good though. If I go out to SouthCounty - like Trabuco Canyon - the view of the southern sky rocks!

Damn you are close to me and Trabuco Canyon memories of one of my many fail sightings of a mountain lion - for 25 full years I wood see the tail or head but never in total a full lion.

Then and since I have seen several in total - Also I think some bike riders were attacked by them in that canyon. Have hiked all over that place but last was years ago. In spring with the wild flowers it just is a terrific place to hang

OC the 3rd place I lost my virginity and reminds me to call a great friend - She and I were middle school sorta sweet hearts - her as grown up ends up in close to sex wayyyy on the to wild side for my tastes so I get to kid her - the fire of that red head

Yeah, a cyclist was attacked and killed by a mountain lion. That was right out by (maybe a mile from) where I worked at the time. (I worked graveyard and used to go out "off campus" into the brush to smoke and stargaze in that same area that cyclist was attacked at around 2am) The recent wildfires had driven some cats into new territory, and the cats were freaked out and hungry. Mountain lions mostly ignore humans (we've had only seven deaths due to mountain lions in the past few decades here in California)

Protip: If you spot one: Stand still... When it looks at you look back. Hunch down. Wait a second. Run full tilt toward it. It will assume you are running at it because you are a danger to it and everything it loves. This also sometimes works with coyotes. (If they are not in a pack of more than four-ish) Despite them being, in every way, a massively better predator ('cause... can you leap 30 feet vertically and attack with 50Kgs (110 lbs.) of crazy claw and tooth action?) they will forget this and just assume that you running at them means that you constitute a threat. In any case, they don't deal with humans a lot, so you can probably freak them out enough to make them go away just by acting like a predator and making yourself look big.

Humid cold.

There is always a way to warm up (blankets for example), but not always a way to cool down (like you're aircon not working).

Ah I get to share one of my most fav stories re Animal contact - have just a few but I think this one is my best and still strange experience - So I plan a solo back pack to Sequoia National park from Santa Monica ca - Married at the time - Plan was to do at full moon and go in rite after I made that long drive - ONE Had to get a permit from the ranger station at trail start - called n advance yet on arrival ranger had left early - So I left a note and proceeded to go in the dark on the trail for a simple 8 mile trip in with a pack of maybe 35 pounds. Just for two days but was caring lots of great food and beverage

That moon? Was full but not for me - Mountains blocked it for my almost 8 miles in - I say almost because I never made camp that night - I kept feeling some odd presence while hiking in - wood stop and remove my back pack and with flashlight wood look around and nada there and kept this up to point I started to worry a bit and frankly was getting tired of the on off of pack and probably WORRY I was not willing to acknowledged -

Worn out and discovered later I was only 1/4 mile from planned camp and rule was NO CAMPING ALLOWED b4 arrival - I found solid rock and set up gear and went to sleep

In morning the ranger kicks my feet to wake me up - I figure he is angry re me breaking a couple of posted rules but he say put boots on and come with me

So we go to the trail and he says look around and I did - nada - then he says look close at ground - GROUND had my boots and his of course in dirt and PAW PRINTS

We went back toward his ranger station a full 2 miles just so he could show me that a mountain lion had been with me even beside me in the dark and I had no clue except of course I did

Just was unwilling to acknowledge it and If I had perhaps I MIGHT have panicked? and become dinner? Maybe good karma? What ever it was - still amazes me and that is also back when I had yet to see a whole tail to head mountain lion - was still years later b4 a full total lion n distance came into view - they are so hard to spot in wild

Sequoia National Park vs Santa Monica where I lived at that time - quick fast arrow my suck - its hours away and has nada to do with where I live currently except in San Diego back country many Mountain Lions exist
