This is for people who do creative work (writing, performing, designing, art, music, etc.). What is your creative process like? For me, I can only do my best work from afternoon to late late night. I also must have a beer or some wine to get the creativity flowing. I like to have several things on the table at once, and go from thing to thing in intense bursts with rests between those bursts. This is how I do my best work. What is your creative process like?

about the same as you. Need clutter to be creative. Nite day morning all the same to me. No alcohol because my form of creative as in circuit design needs lots of math and that and booze is a bad mix
Also I need to procrastinate - let the problem ferment and then need PRESSURE to drive me to the finish.
Writing however I need place total clean and then if its technical writing I need tables set up to place tech books hard covered tech books open to chapters for review

What creative work do you do? Math is not what I am talking about. I am referring more to art and such.

I find I have to do menial physical tasks while planing and thinking about a project and making tough decisions. It helps if I work up a bit of a sweat sometimes. This can quite often involve cleaning up and tidying things away which is helpful. Sometimes I try to focus too hard and I like to distract myself with work and then let my mind drift back to what I need to think about. It often gives me good ideas, and if not, well at least the place is tidy!

Google an expert.
Call for consultation.
Ask price.
Google Wiki-You-Tube-DIY-Walkthrough-Guide.
Prepare materials OR find "suitable" alternatives.
Perform Step 1.
Perform Step 1 again.
Perform Step 2.
Take a break.
weeks later Re-Google Wiki-You-Tube-DIY-Walkthrough-Guide
Re-Perform Step 1 because i forgot how it applied to Step 2.
Re-Perform Step 2.
Watch a Movie.
Return the next day to a half completed Step 2.
Throw away whatever it was i was doing and just do whatever half-assed thing i should have done in the first place.
Rest on my laurels having won a Pyrrhic victory.

Yo Catherine
Based on living with several artists - without the falling in2 depression much art/music wood never be created.
Appears its a necessary evil

No you don't understand, it's not procrastination. That's when you have something to do that you are avoiding. It's more about when I have something that bugs me about a certain detail and I don't really know why. I like to trust my instincts and if I keep returning to an area because I'm unhappy with it or it doesn't seem right, then I've found that focusing on it and trying to solve some supposed problem that may or may not be real, is a total time waster with no reward.
For me that just means it's time to take a break. But relaxing and watching a movie or shitposting or something doesn't work, because I'll return to the same place I left off. I like to get out and do something physical but also something that's a bit repetitive. I think I just enjoy the daydreams while mowing lawns and washing dishes etc sometimes, it helps clear my head. I catch myself drifting off and remember that I'm in this situation because of something that I need to think about, and just then I've put myself in a really good state of mind to start looking at it differently. It's just something that works for me, and when it doesn't I still feel good about what I've done.
It's funny, because you supposedly jog everyday and surf too, lol. But you never talk about it in a way that someone that actually does those things would. You either wouldn't mention it because it's a personal thing, or you would have something good to say and attribute it to while I was out jogging/surfing because it's the good feelings and thoughts while doing it that makes you want to do it more. You just talk shit and when you get fed up with the lack of attention you sign off with hurr durr 10 myle surf ocean a blue and it's an obvious lie.
I live on the coast and I surf, but I'm pretty sure that you don't and possibly never have. That's why I don't really like you btw

I as well need the break and perhaps I am in error about why I need breaks to get away from the problem(s) I am working on [Which are not always work related] for instance last week a major friend - a gal who I have traveled the world with & mostly for wine tasting/learning/ trips all over Planet Earth - she passed away from cancer - just feel super lucky she decided to come down this way from Santa Monica for a visit just a few weeks ago for a few days of lunch's and dinner and catching up. She has been on my mind a lot and this AM while out on the beach someone told me about a guy I followed on the radio for years (car talk) who died yesterday and he will be on my mind later when the tide is way down from where it is currently. Need the breaks but honest for me I also think I have to procrastinate. I need artificial deadlines. Every bit of work engineers of any kind do, usually have deadlines. With me I need the behind the curve feeling to drive me on. So putting of solving the problem in total somehow forces me in2 a crash landing pattern only I GET OUT Alive and project is finished.
{Engineers like artists are NEVER happy with the end results because we feel if we had just a little more time we could do more better} > > It's funny, because you supposedly jog everyday and surf too, lol. Yea I am sure not out to make friends easily on chans. That is also true for a number of places I play on net - More a venting process with me, which sure helps relieve stress in work I do. So I not only get in2 pissing contests, I actually go out of my way to create them when they do not exist. Chans are almost ideal for that. People around here and other chans post a topic just to shitpost and get something going. Not common on 4ums/bbs I have used over the many years. Sure works for me. Yet say when I use Huffington which is a lot - I usually do not post a comment unless its positive or I am so in disagree I just have to point out an error. 90% of what I say is usually positive - Here not so much > > I live on the coast and I surf, but I'm pretty sure that you don't and possibly never have. That's why I don't really like you btw
You're free to believe anything you want about me - The one thing I do NOT want to leave a bad impression about - OK Several - You damn well no how much fun it is to surf. And anyone can do it. Blind do it, dogs are doing it, people from wheel chairs are doing it. Last thing I want anyone to think is that its all that hard to do. I mean wots more easy then getting into the water and just going with the flow?
You probably started out on a board early on age wise. Me No - 1st body surfed Huntington beach ca. One of my most fav memories and this was after marriage but still in mid 20's. We, friends and wife drove couple of hours b4 dawn to Palm Springs - took the first tram of the morning up San Jacinto Mountains which is just 10 minutes or so and we carried snow skis and skied in most perfect fresh snow and this was b4 I had ever tried regular downhill skiing - Beautiful morning much like it is today here. Had quick lunch and someone said - hey surf is up today and someone else said hey we can catch the next tram down in a few minutes and hit Huntington beach and surf. It was more the idea that we could drive from Santa Monica 100 miles or so and ski and then go and surf ocean a blue the same days AND DAMN WE DID and it was Fantastic cause Huntington is a terrific area and we had a few hours till sunset to play - then hit stores for stuff to take to the fire pits and cook hot dogs or whatever and drink wine - AND When I say we Surfed I mean we all were body surfing - no one in our group owned or new how to use a board - Just was not in our lexicon - Body surfing seemed all we needed to have a blast
It was one year after my divorce when I first took down hill ski lessons - Skiing vs Surfing? Skiing is wayyyyy harder to learn proper - Wayyyyy more lessons - at least it was for me wayyy more lessons from pros that teach. Surfing? I bet its wayyyyy more easy after one grows up on a boogie board or skies cause its only balance you need to get up and stay on -
Dancing to learn dancing I think that was more difficult then learning how to surf properly. Dancing is NOT all that difficult and Surfing sure isn't. Just wish more people learned and practiced some common curtsey.
Its this simple - I am up 45 mins b4 crack of dawn every day - Today at 5:45 and water temp is still in high 60's low 70's so no need for wet suit. Up out of bed NO check messages or phone calls - if any work emergence exists I have a complex alarm system to show me via lights - Phone Email ISDN special telco line thing - No serious work issues I no need to know about the rest of work minutia, cause I wood never get out to hit the water and get bogged down with work.
You and I must not make anyone think Surfing is difficult cause it will discourage a few from trying - Same when I say Dance dance - around chans dudes cry its hard to meet a girl - NOT if you go dancing it ain't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots more girls out to dance then guys and I bet no better way to have a girl in arms in minutes without even a name intro and its as easy as that to connect for JUST A DANCE - Hugs ALWAYS Follow and I doubt anyone here can show me any other way to quickly connect with someone new that quickly - 100% chance of getting smiles and 95% chance of a nice hug after that one dance ends. CORRECTION 99% CHANCE of the hugs from someone you have not previously met.
TODAY SURF SUCKED - Almost a lake out there. Less than 1 feet at the surf break. Yes still a great morning to be out in water and then hang a bit on sand with friends. You yes YOU can find me 90+% of mornings at Swami's. Named after the Church on top of the bluff rite next door to where I live. Free parking. Just come on down the stairs with your board - Showers outside and bathrooms - Hot coffee in walking distance or I will make you a espresso or triple it up as I take it daily - If you do and I AM not in water or on sand - just ask any surfer who is a regular there - give my name OR just point your finger up at the houses to the left of the Church and say ur looking for the guy who lives up there and regulars all no me - its just that simple
Hey if anyone here does that? I do NOT teach surfing or down hill skiing - Do teach dance and can tell you were to go so you end up with a gal in arms that quick - its that easy 7 our of 7 evenings here in San Diego area and in Spring Summer but NOT now as festivals are about over - even on weekend days one can learn to dance QUICKLY I promise - Have willing partners who teach - age range is 16 to ages u want not no about - I dance with the daughter of a band member who is 15 and she can teach Jitterbug or Salsa to anyone who has at least taken a recent shower
Anyway thanks for the long reply - You are more then free to dislike me cause as you probably have figured out - I do go out of way to piss many off. Others once we get to know each other its one of two ways - More pissing off or net friends - Not much in between with me - Unless I go anon and then trust this - few catch me as anon and when someone does I come out quickly and say Yep it was me
OH Jogging - No one starts out doing 10 - its as easy as you just start and add a bit each week and eventually one finds wot works for them - It does NOT work for me unless I get high from the jog. High as in truly high on natural brain drug - Same hi one can get in extended fast dancing -
