Travelers know that when it comes to making journeys more bearable, good noise-cancelling headphones can make the difference.
Active noise cancelling (ANC) headphones use microphones located on the ear cups to detect incoming unwanted sound and blast the inverse of that sound out of the earphones. The sound waves overlap, cancelling each other out and silencing outside noise.
Most noise-cancelling technology is designed to block out the drone of aircraft, road noise or hum of computers, placing a veil of silence over the ears allowing listeners to clearly hear the music without the volume needing to be turned up to 11. But hundreds of ANC headphones are available, making choosing the right pair hard.

Though I think noise cancelling headphones are a bit pointless. In most cases I actually prefer being able to hear the background noise, it keeps me grounded and lets me realize if something is going on. I don't like it when people come up to me and I have no idea they're there, or missing the doorbell or whatever. Also I'm pretty sure it would be unsafe to be in traffic with those on, a lot more so than regular headphones at least...
Oh and the 'vacuum' or whatever it is they create is kind of uncomfortable.

i really need to find a way to make noise cancelling headphones that mold to your ear, no matter the shape.
people use those earplug things that are made out of foam but they never worked for me, ive always had to use the earplugs that were made out of a weird wax (it was the kind for swimmers i guess)
a way to incorporate both of those things

I need to follow up on results but not to many years ago Boeing had a program in place to install and test noise cancelling in wot I thought was just crazy - External on outside of aircraft - loud speakers that wood emit phase cancelling noise (out of phase) to zero out the aircraft noise so people on ground wood hear nada zilch
Not my area of Engineering expertise but any EE should understand the Physics principles of out of phase null principles. The other program and they hired a slew of people and many were work friends who took on the project
Inside aircraft the same thing - Blast of out of phase noise to cancel prime noise and zero out - Betting they totally gave up - I do this kind of thing all the time in design but not for audio noise but for higher frequencies - Audio wave lengths are very very long as measured in Feet lots of Feet - At least in RF one can get down to realistic few feet or even inches
