First of all, I don't like all these people who think that a martini is just vodka or gin. In my honest opinion, if you don't like the taste of vermouth, don't order a martini. Order a glass of vodka. My recipe goes back to basics, but with a little spin.
2 tablespoons 190 proof grain alcohol
1 tablespoon martini y rossi extra dry vermouth
3 teaspoons olive juice
Shake vigorously over ice.
Pour into a martini glass and top off with seltzer water (or regular water if you prefer.)
Garnish with olives.

Only two tablespoons of 190 proof grain alcohol (aka Everclear) which is then diluted with water.
The idea here is to get roughly the same amount of alcohol, without overpowering the drink with the taste of vodka or gin. It brings out the flavor of the olive juice and vermouth, without making the drink taste too briny either.

I see your point but vodka and gin are soooo tasty! Also I am not into olives so the dirty part would put me off, this DOES NOT mean that I wouldn't try the drink you described.

Well let me ask you this: do you also enjoy the taste of vermouth in your martinis, or do you prefer to keep it closer to straight vodka/gin?

I am not too far to either side. I enjoy them both ways.

OK, good. Try this recipe:
1 shot vodka or gin
1 tablespoon Everclear
1 tablespoon extra dry vermouth
a few drops of orange bitters
Shake vigorously over ice. Pour into a martini glass and top off with seltzer water (or regular water, if you prefer). Garnish with a twist of lemon (peel the lemon over the martini glass).
This recipe will give you the best of both worlds. Tell me what you, if/when you get a chance.

Looks good. I definitely will give it a try. Is the martini your favorite drink?

I like just about everything, but I like martinis because they're classy. What I hate about martinis is how they got turned into a bunch of girly/gay drinks that have nothing to do with the original martini (like Cosmopolitans and fruit "martinis" and those sorts of things.) And as a result, I can buy a man's martini at a bar without getting gay jokes cracked on me. Why can James Bond drink it, but I can't? Fuck.
Man, I drink whiskey, cognac, brandy, whiskey sours, amaretto sours, white russians, hard lemonade (not Mike's, I make my own), beer, wine, gin and tonics, jager bombs, margheritas, mojitos, long island ice teas, coffee/espresso martinis (up-all-night martinis), and lots of other stuff I probably can't think of right now, but those are my favorites.
