Yes, I have a low paying job.
With my condition, I could get a doctors note tomorrow and earn twice as much as in benefits and grants. And my gf could get a carers allowance.
In fact, I'm earning about 2/3rds of what I could earn by sitting on my arse, whacked out on drugs, and watching TV.
Which is why people like green piss me off: he has no diagnosed mental health issues except a pretty minor alcohol addiction... He just chooses to sponge off the state. He's never worked, and never contributed. He's just a fat fuck Jr who has no ambition beyond earning a pittance on job seekers allowance (70 a week) and walking round feeding the ducks.
When I get I'll, I get incredibly I'll -- I lose jobs, spiral into self destruction, and become a total psychopath. When I am wellish again, I always, against doctors orders try and get back into work asap because that's how I was bought up.
I have a severe mental illness, but I don't define myself by it, I always want to dust myself off and try a different job, something that maybe next time will keep me stable, and give me better long term stability.

I know he is on JSA because I know he too part in a job seekers agreement scheme a couple of years back where he had to work 140 hours in a charity shop or lose his benefits. He managed to complete that okay, so that he didn't lose his benefit, he also admitted in a chat with someone here that he didn't work "because he didn't want to". If he is okay to work for free in a charity shop, he is okay to work part time for a wage.
I work because I believe I am able to and don't want to be an invalid. I want to contribute to society.

That's it. In my view, state benefits are for those who simply cannot work, and as a last resort. I can work, so I do. I like waking up with a purpose and structure is of great help to my condition, as as a sense of self worth.

Getting dumped for his girlfriend clearly hit him hard and he deteriorated. I tried to get him to go to a doctor, depression can be so debilitating but there are many treatments to help with it. He seemed to prefer self diagnosing himself on the internet, then "morphing" his symptoms to fit what he thought he might have. It took me years to get diagnosed with borderline personality, years and years of pain and anguish. Years and years of thinking I was an intelligent failure. I couldn't understand why life was so hard for me, whilst it was seemingly so much easier for everyone else. I was still productive though, but I had to push to be taken seriously.
I've now been stable for the first time in my life, and have a future I can look forward to, with the proper meds.
Look, green may well happen to have a mental illness (like I say, depression seems most likely). But if you don't push for help and a diagnosis (because no help is forthcoming without one) then you are effectively condemning yourself to a life of worthlessness. Even with severe mental health problems, anything is better than drinking beer in your sheltered housing unit and obsessing about bbs’ and tostr and the new Zealand troll.

I haven't overcome it. I haven't even started therapy yet. But medication has made me infinitely more stable.

Hold on a momento. As teen I got a wot thought wood be great job repairing electronic stuff like TV n Radios - WAS NOT a good job. Moved on to doing as you say is not dignified. Started packing and quickly was trained on the cash register which paid union wage with bonus for working part time - that of course has gone away - Still the packing was no big deal. Best part of working in a large supermarket is NOT the register with rude customers. Warehouse work or even the dreaded Freezer where you dress up heavy and need heavy gloves. I liked that work.
Market in that mall closed early so I got a job in a liquor store - Register - stocking and delivery- AND GOT Robbed wayyyyy 2 many tymes. Told my Mom only about the first one otherwise she wood have forced me to quit
