Now i feel stupid. Damn that must be a though decision for you. Can't you first go to Hong Kong, see how it goes and then if you want to stay there for longer then whats allowed, decide to renounce the US citizenship?

Well, I have been to Hong Kong many times. I love it. It is the greatest city in the world besides Paris, in my opinion. It is worth it, but I still feel guilty: my family, my friends, my history are in the US.

Well maybe you aren't guilty, maybe you are having doubts if you really want to be there. When you say you have been there, what do you mean? Like worked there and actually lived there instead of having a vacation (etc..) there?

I have lived and worked in mainland China for years, and I have have spend months in Hong Kong. I have not worked there, though. I guess I am doubting, yes. The advantage would be that I could expand my business with citizens' rights and securities.

Hong Kong is actually a wonderful city. I could never afford the rent even for a tiny little closet. Curse my western height.

Hong Kong is a TERRIFIC City. British standards/protocol with Chinese in deep thanks for not being anything like them Commie's on mainland. Alas all good things may cum to an end with Commie War lords sticking boots n soon tanks down on Hong Kong.
Wot wood u gain from no USA Citizenship? Wots the advantage? Hong Kong of the future with populace expected to be Puppets of Commie Puppet masters - Gov can squash ya like a bug and they do on the mainland. They do allow say Language teachers to come in and work at McD's burger flipping wages. Alcohol is dirt cheep. Lots of expats who b alcoholics are in China for that very reason.
Ultra expensive city to live in. I only go there on other peoples money.

I never went to or know anything about Hong Kong except that they were serfs of the brits. Do they spit and shit on the streets like in mainland China? That would be a deal breaker for me.

Also, isn't it hot as hell and full of smog too?
Syntax replied with this 12 years ago, 28 minutes later, 5 hours after the original post[^][v]#502,819
So for some reason in all of mainland China only Shanghai has attempted to stop the spitting n shitting. Where you no who/whom lives in Kunming, the expats on their forum expound on how dirty the city is.
Smog was so horrid in Beijing, that you no who/whom after a bout of TB with hole in lung had to split from Beijing and figured that somehow Kunming wood be more better but expats there point out how smog is getting very bad many a day. AND AND People in China smoke EVERYWHERE.
No such thing as smoke free zones. Cars do not have anti smog devices as that makes them cheaper. Dirty air and if you want a laff look up the water. Often turned off for hours or daily. Hard to clean up if water is turned off.
Shitting in the streets is part of the culture and you no who/whom says one must accept and be a part of culture one lives in. Yea sure as if one is going to go Commie over nite by moving

If OP is who I think it is, I doubt he could afford to live in Hong Kong.
