I know music backwards and forwards, but only on conventional instruments. Electronic equipment is kind of foreign to me.

It's a weird kind of digital synthesis I'm unfamiliar with. I think it's based on very short bits of samples.
I'm more of a subtractive synthesis kind of guy. Easy to understand and get ideas out and into music.

I just wikipedia'd that. I don't know anything about digital music. That looks completely badass. The article makes granular synthesis sound like the digital sound equivalent of voxels for 3d modeling.

It's not as hardcore as it sounds (except for the last one), but it's worth a read.
