I'm distro hopping again and I'd like to hear about some of your favorite distros. I'm partial to puppy because it's just so damn small and light. I'm not into the blinged out bloated distros, but on the other hand anything too stripped down is just a headache (like DSL).

I'm posting from Bodhi Linux and it's pretty impressive. The only drawback is it uses Enlightment windows manager, and while it offers a shit ton of customizations and it's super light, it's also pretty confusing.

Open source is the future, my friend. Embrace it. I get where you're coming from though, I keep windows around and I use it almost exclusively for periods of time. Linux is essential for some stuff. And in the bigger picture I think it's essential for the market itself. I like diving into Linux every year or so, I don't know much about it, I'm no good with it and it usually frustrates the hell out of me. But atm I'm enjoying hopping around and I'm looking to put together a tiny versatile little distro I can carry around with me.

This is because you were mucking around with it, no? It seems like the average user could just install Ubuntu and use it for years without ever seeing a terminal. When's the last time you looked at the big distros? For the most part the monolithic distros are rock solid and extremely noob friendly.

I use Arch because I like pacman, but there really is very little difference between the distros. Your choice of desktop will affect your UX much more.
