In what can only be described as a cruel twist of fate, a Filipino councilman, who happened to be taking pictures of his family outside his home as part of a New Year’s celebration, actually managed to capture his killer in a photo seconds before the fatal shot was fired.Reynaldo Dagsa, a 35-year-old district councilor in the metro area of Manila, was taking a photograph of his wife, daughter and mother-in-law outside of his home at the exact moment his killer stepped from behind a nearby car and took aim.
In the photograph, the man is shown standing behind Dagsa’s smiling daughter, wearing a black baseball cap backward — and a cold gaze – as he points his pistol directly at the camera.
As you can see, the barrel of the pistol is illuminated by the camera’s flash.
The shots, the family said, were masked by the popping of nearby firecrackers. They only knew something was wrong when he fell to the ground after being hit.
Not only that, Mr Dagsa had also photographed his killer’s accomplice, who can be seen lurking in the background of the picture, said police chief Jude Santos. The gunman was soon identified as Michael Gonzales, also known by the underworld name of Fubo of Fish Pond Area 1. He was arrested soon afterwards when the district councillor’s family handed the camera to police.

There was one guy who worked in a restaurant in a hotel.

Converting a body into meat products a fairly popular disposal method. A German guy in Chicago (I think) did a similar thing with his wife and a sausage factory. The sale of sausages in the city dropped noticably when this came to light.

Depends. Even with that scenario, investigators are usually able to find somebody with a motive. A lot of killings aren't random.
But yeah if it's a random, distant killing with no witnesses then you're probably not going to get caught.

Yeah, they can match the firearm to the bullet, and can find records of gun ownership (assuming they acquired it legally).

Make sure they make a rough sort of circle around an area which you do not frequent.
Oh, and if they've had breast implants, scratch off the serial number.

Missing white woman syndrome is interesting.
Over christmas a middle class white blonde professional went missing for 8 days and was found dead. It was literally the top headline in national news for those 8 days, and continues to be. And with increased media interest comes increased police action, more searches, more aggressive inquiry. At the same time a mixed race 14 year old in London went missing and there was NOTHING on the news. And she's still missing.
Also, if someone is dead and they are linked to a crime, would an investigation and a trial take place? What if they die partway through the investigation or trial?
