I don't even care about Minecraft, and this is slightly shocking to me!

Though I can understand his reasoning. Being as famous as that seems to bring a lot of idiocy and controversy as standard.

I don't understand what MS wants with Mojang, especially if it doesn't include Notch and basically everyone has Minecraft already.

It's a strong, well-loved brand. And control of Mojang means control of Minecraft.

MS is a few years late to the party, as always.

i was pretty surprised to hear they bought mojang. wtf do they want with minecraft. and didn't they spend like a billion dollars on it or something stupid? how the fuck are they going to make their money back? surely everyone who wants it has it by now.

maybe they want to make minecraft 2 or some shit

They made a single game and most of that game was made by one person who left the company. I don't think MS can do that much with Minecraft. Like, what hasn't been done? How can they still profit from it?

Casuals aren't aware if that stuff, they see Mojang and just think they're the guys who made Minecraft. Therefore, they are better than some unknown indie dev that had only made one game. Brand recognition.

They are still making DLC for the Xbox Minecraft, and there's a whole generation of kids who are just now getting into Minecraft. And, of course, there's merchandise to sell. It's a little short-sighted to just say that everybody already has the game, so the IP isn't worry buying.

yes but i was saying that there isn't a lot of proven talent at mojang for microsoft to make use of.

merchandise licenses arent worth 2.5 billion. The game isn't selling that much anymore.

? They all made Minecraft. Jens has been in charge of it for a while.

Wrong.

they worked on it but they didn't come up with it, which is the important part if you want new IP. It's like EA buying BioWare without Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk. (also i had to look up those names)

That number isn't going to increase though and that is a very small fraction of the 2.5 billion.

Well, shit; I was hoping they weren't going to sell.
Now I'm cared about the modding community and possible subscriptions.

On plus side though, maybe this might encourage the employees of Mojang to ensure absolute quality control for future updates.

I'm still kind of scared.
