i don't want to have to download a crapware utility to do it if i can get away with it. Isn't there some voodoo i can do to get a youtube video downloaded? I have just started my googling and of course it's crapware everywhere.
i seem to remember that i used to pull them like out of my temporary buffer files or something like that, i used to do it all the time and i think i didn't even have to do anything but rename a file or something...
Anyway, what method do you use to grab videos off of youtube? tell me your secrets.

or this one? this one seems sketchy, when you direct it to a url it takes you to a page with 2 download buttons. one downloads an mp4 and the other downloads a .mp4.exe which i'm sure is a really bad thing to download. So this site looks like it tricks you into installing niggerware

I use either youtube-dl (needs Python 2.7+) for when I want specific video qualities + other options, or r04r's very own creation (which grabs the highest quality by default).

You don't actually need python installed for youtube-dl on windows, since they also provide exes (which is what my tool uses). See https://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/download.html

youtube-dl works perfectly with python 2.6 and downloads highest quality by default without any third-party frontend.

Oh, okay. And I know it does that by default; I was mentioning it because r04r's just grabs the video, and doesn't have an option to pick quality, and I thought OP might want that option.
