I wonder if this Zoe Quinn character has considered that perhaps her current predicament has very little to do with her being a woman. I know every woman thinks that everything bad that happens in their life is just because they are female and the male oppressors are doing everything they can to stop a woman(!) from having a modicum of success, but there is clearly more than just that at work here.

Here's the beginnings of the story in convenient >greentext format.

It has everything to do with her being a woman. It's an incredibly gendered response to her acting stupidly and unprofessionally.

She's a woman who (apparently) cheated, so it's not about a lapse in judgment or anything. It's about a calculated attempt to gain professional advantage. When men cheat with people they work with, it's because that's who's available to them when they have a moral failing and "whoops." When women do it, it must involve some larger plan. Clearly, relationships with people in the industry were for industry advantage, and not because that's the crowd of people she knew and interacted with regularly. Women who "misuse" their sexuality are never given the benefit of the doubt. Either whore or virgin.

So it's okay to threaten to rape her, and to call her a whore, and to dox and harass her. That's what we'd do to a man in her position, of course. And it has nothing to do with her gender. Oh, okay.

It really has a lot more to do with the content of her character than it does her gender.

She 'doxxed' herself and (yeah i'm going to use this phrase) she is asking for it!

I really don't think it does.

She slept with 5 men — her boss and a journalist included — all while being in a relationship and claiming cheating violates "sexual consent". Pretty big whoops, but I don't think people would particularly care — after all, whose business is it what she does in her own private life? — if she hadn't slept with the journalist who also gave her a lot of good coverage.

And yeah, the response is definitely gendered, but the fact there is a response I don't think has anything to do with the fact she's a woman. If it were a man, there naturally would be no threats of rape — the threats would merely take a different form, but the doxxing and the harassment would be no different. I think her reaction to the drama has done more to stoke its flames than anything else.

Nathan Grayson, and apparently it was limited to "pushing" for favourable coverage from Kotaku. So that Pastebin lied!

The whole thing is really overblown, that /r/gaming thread was ridiculous. 12,000 comments.

Ugh, Kotaku. I'm not really following what this is about, but I will say that Kotaku is the internet equivalent of a trashy rag. Very sensationalist and opinionated.

Been following this for the past few hours, LOVING the fallout.
The woman has clearly been using her vagina as a tool to gain good publicity. Although she is not the only one at fault here.
