the ps4 and xbone are both so underpowered compared to even an average PC with an average graphics card it doesn't take much to build a PC with much better specs than either one (for roughly the same cost as a ps4 or an xbone).
They shouldn't have called these "next gen" they should have called them "budget gen."
I think sony couldn't redo the Ps3 experience (a console with much better specs than average computers at the time) because they were using the Ps3 Platform to seal the deal with blue-ray, and this go around they had no reason to push expensive hardware out the door as a loss leader.
So in order to make the Ps4 cost effective they had to back off of higher spec hardware.
I think what will end up killing consoles (really) will be their inability to pair with true next gen peripherals, i.e. Occulus rift (neither one can push 1440 on dual screens and also keep latency low and not use motion blur) or VR motion capture stuff that isn't a Kinect.
PCs will rise again as the master of high end gaming, and yeah, i think Valve may be a big leader in that direction
