Topic: When will we move on from this fad of referring to transsexuals by their desired gender?

How horrible! Women who feel good about getting to be women after years/decades of society telling them that they're wrong about who they are! The horror! Women liking their own bodies! HRT alleviating dysphoria! How awful!

Thank you for recognizing the fetish crosses the sexual barrier. I have a proposed cure for that, too. I propose these women who actually admire their own bodies to be excessively autistic to the point of self-absorptive lesbianism owing to their neuromasculinity, in which case they must be forced to transition to a sex reflective of this neuromasculinity to rid them of their psychotic quasi-shemalewhore privilege.

No neurological basis for transsexualism has hitherto been found, a lot of these studies are confounded by assessing these alleged transsexuals through the transitory period, during which they are undergoing hormone replacement therapy. Meanwhile, half a century ago, the basis was already found, in a mixture of fetishism and schizophrenogensis resulting in the pathologically psychotic idealization of one's self in the cross-identified mode gradually reinforced from a progression initially beginning as a transvestitic voyeurism. Dr. Autphag, an esteemed colleague of mine, had written prolifically on this during the period of his heyday.

everyone who is around transpeople have to constantly walk on eggshells to feed the fantasy that is their gender. They don't have a delusion. They know what their biological sex is, but due to biological factors, they identify as the opposite gender. That is just the way that they are wired. It's kinda similar to homosexuality, in a way. It might not be how most others of their biological gender are, but, again, that's how they are wired.

Do you doubt the existence of biological factors in this? Are you convinced that it's some sort of mindset that they build themselves up into?

is that why most of the languishing trans community exists on the internet and tumblr instead of doing anything besides yelling and shouting and setting back their *gender years and years? Homosexuals have become pretty much accepted now, as well as black people, civil rights, etc. Want to know why? Because they actually stood up and fought for what they believed in in the real world instead of writing fucked up fanfiction on bbs's and blogs that nobody read.

I also find it funny that there are trans people that are homophobic, why is that they are allowed to be homophobic? if anyone says anything about them being homophobic they are automatically listed as "transphobic"

I dont understand how I could be any clearer, you said that transgenderism is caused by biologic stuff happening in the brain, so do you admit that it is a mental illness? this might come as a shock to you but autism is diagnosed the exact same way, as is being bipolar, etc etc.

so are you agreeing that it is a mental illness or are you gonna go back and post a shitty image macro and go NO NO NO THATS NOT WUT I SAID!!!

> >So... You're saying that because you think that you have higher levels of testosterone, you must have exactly the same biological factors as trans people, and are only not a transexual because of your views on gender? Is this correct?

Don't you think that's overstating a bit? We don't know the cause, right?

What we do know is there are brain scan differences - but there are also brain scan differences that are the result of behavior, aren't there? For instance, one can develop depression or PTSD as a result of traumatic life events. And that depression or PTSD can later show up as differences in the way that person's brain functions which can show up in brain scans. Yes? Doesn't change that the traumatic life event is what caused the depression or PTSD in the first place, just shows that those dysfunctions do have biological markers.

At least what I read from the wiki, the biological basis is still theorized. It's just that you can see there is a difference when you look at the brain. What caused it is still very much up in the air. Am I missing something?

i also find it funny that there are a -TON- of homophobic trans people

so, back to killer letuce, are you going to try to refute anything ive said or are you just going to post a sassy quip that has nothing to do with the subject at hand considering besides the wiki link, thats literally all you've done so far.

gender dysmorphia is a mental illness that has no basis in reality, yet even with the wiki link you posted- it still goes back to the fact that it is a biological problem in the brain, hence, MENTAL ILLNESS.

Are you fucking illiterate or something? I would have expected this out of syntax or catherine (both who have mental illness, though ill let you guess which ones) but to sit and throw a fit when the facts are presented to you is really childish.

go back to tumblr you idiotic piece of shit.

But this in itself doesn't make you comparable to transexuals.

@492,357 (beckyderp !8ElfFaoFao)
There's also cases of it occurring in early childhood, quite a few trans people note that their biological gender felt "wrong" in early childhood.

I'm curious, what do you suppose would be an environmental cause that triggers such a significant change in behaviour? That could turn a person transexual? The examples you noted, PSD or depression, are both the results of se very heavy environmental influences. Do you reckon that this theorised environmental influence would be similarly significant?

Behavior is the biggest influence on the brain, yes? It's not hard to convince yourself something is wrong with you, for your behavior to change, and for that change in behavior and thinking to then show up in brain scans or what have you.

I mean - are there any studies that can predict whether someone will have gender dysphoria later on, before they've started believing that that's what they have?

(I do think there's a biological basis for it, actually, but I don't see the 'causation' in what you linked to. Just correlation.)

Biology, is in fact, the greatest influence on biology. I wish Becky would fuck off with her constructivist-environmentalist garbage.

The biological basis is a pathological one that must be rectified (and should be our obligation to), but there is nonetheless a biological basis.

I find it interesting that Anonymous G rightfully points out the similarity in the diagnostic rubric between mental disorders such as autism and bipolar, and the alleged 'legitimate medical condition' (which in fact is still classified as a mental illness in the DSM-V) of transgenderism/gender dysphoria, from which transsexualism is merely a sub-categorized condition, rather than it being a theoretically proven phenomenon in its own right. Brain structural differences in transsexuals at the moment appear to be investigated entirely in isolation as their own entities rather than parralels being drawn between neurological structural differences found in those suffering with transsexualism and those structural differences found in other mental illnesses which, in ages prior, and outside the US by large, they would've been(/are still being, and frequently in co-morbidity with; in the UK, 40% of those diagnosed with GID in 2011 were also diagnosed with a psychotic disorder) diagnosed.

It would seem straightforward that, if behavioural manifestations are largely similar to those in other mental illnesses ("acknowledge my delusions and re-craft reality in my image") that such parralels must exist, for the neurological basis from which those must spring forth must bare like similarities.

Hard to say. I'm not aware of any. The thing is that "believing that's what they have"... Is the start of being aware of it. There's not really any way to tell before they express discomfort with their biological gender.

> but I don't see the 'causation' in what you linked to. Just correlation.
Allright, that's a fair point.

The reason I'm saying that it's (most likely) a biological thing is that... There just doesn't seem to be any compelling evidence for some enviornmental cause. We've got all of these observed biological things going on, while there doesn't seem that a consistent envrionmental factor has been identified. At most I can see vague theories about emotional distress or trauma, but they just don't seem to have pinned down anything solid on that front. And even then, it's not definite proof, as any stressors may well have been caused by the child's "unusual" behaviour in the first place.

@492,378 (swamplights !!0lQNsDoq/)
I've already said. You are comfortable with your biological gender.

But hey, I found a pretty relevant study: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF01541415

In a nutshell, they compared some FTM transexuals to some lesbians. Both groups displayed "tomboyish" behaviour. However, they also different in some interesting ways. Namely, most of the transexuals cross-dressed as children whilst none of the lesbians did. None of the lesbians had any gender identity confusin either, while the transexuals did. Finally, 70% of the transexuals reacted negatively to to breast development whilst only 10% of the lesbians did.

Now, I think that this neatly demonstrates that transexuals do engage in behaviours that are unique to their condition, and do differ in significant ways from other "tomboyish" individuals. I'm guessing that you had no urge to cross-dress, were never confused about your gender, and didn't react negatively to developing breasts?

Yeah, I mean, you could probably do a snapshot in time of a large group of kids, and then find out later who turned out to be transgender. Probably tough with the numbers though.

I agree with you. I think it's a real (biological) thing, I just don't know how you prove that at this point.

This actually supports my point. You didn't feel the same way about it as the trans kids, and they likely knew that it was inevitable too.

@492,406 (beckyderp !8ElfFaoFao)
> I just don't know how you prove that at this point.
It may be beyond us, right now. In my view, a way to get defintie proof would be to somehow examine the biology of a very large group of foetuses from the womb onwards, as well as their environment growing up. Then see which of them becomes transexual, and look at the biological and environmental factors, seeing what came first and what is consistent across the transexuals. Though this would be a pretty damn massive undertaking.

The morality of the most ethical scientists would never allow this undertaking to go ahead. It is sick, repulsive, disgusting, and puerile to go forth with such a study on the face of the presumption that such biological anomalies aren't pathological or should be encouraged or protected.

Maybe but crossdressing has always been big thing in the lesbian community. Look at butches. They dont believe that they were born men, but they definitely dress like men.

We understand pretty well that it appears to be biological in nature, and is distinct from somebody merely being a tomboy/effeminate male.

Honestly, you're sounding somewhat similar to those people who go around trying to prove that homosexuality is caused by childhood abuse, or whatever. In that you seem to want to make the condition seem "less real" so that it can be dismissed rather than regarded as a legitimate condition.

Actually, it seems like ulterior motivations stemming from a perverse agenda motivate you to legitimize an otherwise rightfully viewed as pathological condition, with academia following in your wake.
