The game that I'm playing right now is Total War: Rome II. It's a Grand Strategy game, set in the early Roman period. It's pretty bloody fun, the main goal is to conquer territories, but it also has an emphasis on maintaining order within your territories and engaging in diplomacy with other powers. You can also go down and command the actual battles, but I mostly only do that if the auto-resolve chances are looking a bit dicey, or I need to make sure that there are no survivors.
I'm playing as an English tribe, and have managed to take over the British Isles, and what are today France and Spain respectively. Currently I am co-invading Germany alongside Rome and some Greeks. The Germanic tribe that we're attacking is barely putting up a fight, which is convenient.

A game that I'm really interested in at the moment is 7 Days to Die. It's an open world, zombie survival game with a fully destructible environment. Think Minecraft, but realistic looking and with an emphasis on zombies. It has ruined towns that you can search for supplies, and crafting and building.
Despite being early access, it's perfectly playable and all that. One cool feature is has is that, unlike in Minecraft, structural integrity matters. A given material can only support a certain amount of weight, and you can't have floating structures or anything like that. So maintaining a structure is serious business, or it could all collapse. See 53:40 of this video for a particularly funny demonstration of this. Zombies can also break though pretty much any material given the time and numbers, and can dig under walls to get at players, so nowhere is truly safe.
Don't know why I haven't bought this yet, really. Gotta do that soon.

I got 60 games on Steam in the last few months and I've played for maybe two hours. I pirated Civ 5 and put a few hours into that. I tried CS: GO, but either I'm really terrible at that or the other players are unbelievably good. I haven't found a game that captures my interest in awhile and it's really frustrating. To be fair I haven't given too many games a chance though.

It's a grand strategy game. Of course it has imperialism. That's like complaining that an FPS has firearm usage.
But it's certainly not just western. You can play as states from all over the world. A player could be an Eastern empire and invade Europe, if they wanted to.

Well, there was a Steam sale on a little while ago. Even somebody without a meth-enhanced income could snag quite a few games from that.

when it comes to grand strategy I play a lot of Crusader Kings 2 and Victoria 2.
I used to play the first Rome:Total War and Medieval2, but after Shogun, I burned out on the series a bit

Aw dude, I fucking love Medieval 2. I have a really late game going, the year on it is like 2100, where the Timurids and Mongolians control all of the right side of the map, and I've deliberately stayed in one small area as Milan. It'd take a shitload of work to win at this point, but it's pretty cool.
Did you mean Shogun 2, btw? Yeah, that one didn't really grab me either. But I will say, that if you liked Medieval 2 then I highly recommend Rome 2.

I'm more or less familiar with that period, the main problems for me were: Arr look same, pray same: factions have minimal differences between them and a serious lack of different units; Map and scope of game too small, you can only play in the tiny island of Japan. They could had very well included Korea and China at least, maybe Southeast Asia too.

I have been playing A LOT of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri lately. I don't care what anyone says it is the God of 4X turn-based strategy video games.

Ha, I have an old copy of that that's installed across four fucking discs. And yeah, I tried it again a few years ago. Doesn't hold up for me either.
And speaking Molyneux, I tihnk he's a fun guy. Quite the personality in gaming.
Fun fact, he quit Microsoft because a woman came to his office to check that his chair was properly adjusted.

Hey, you nerds like horror games, right? There's a really interesting one that's come out recently, Five Nights At Freddy's. Basically, you're a night-shift security guy watching security monitors in a Chuck E. Cheese's-type place. Only that animatronics go haywire at night, and come after you. What's interesting is how it plays. Your character can't move from their position in the security room, and can basically just look at the monitors to track the animatronics as they move around, and close the doors either side of themselves. You also have a limited power supply, and every action (including shutting a door to protect yourself) drains it. When it runs out, you're probably fucked. So you have to balance it all until the night-shift ends and you're safe.
Probbaly won't play it myself, but I really like the idea. Also, here's a fun video of some people from Achievement Hunter playing it.

Also, I don't know if there are really any Halo fans around here these days, but is anyone else considering getting the Master Cheif Collection?
At first I was going to skip it, since, you know, I already have all of those games bar Halo 2 Anniversary. But... I really, really want to play Halo 2 Anniversary, and it has a Halo 5 beta on it. But mostly, I just love the idea od continously playing through the whole saga. Nostalgia is a powerful thing, I guess.
