Being a worker in a hotel, i often get asked if english is like a second language. That is a understatement, it is a second language in the sense that it is another first language.
It is odd that iceland is almost always the first country on the list of internet usage per capita, yet with no quality internet websites whatsoever, except for some exclusive icelandic torrent sites. The only icelandic imageboard in history got killed a long time ago, only because a feminist group sent a letter to the ISP.
So you see iceland will never have any quality websites, so the icelandic language itself will die out in a matter of 60 years. Because as the icelanders continue to spend more time on the internet, they spend more time with the english language. Nobody hear realizes this and this is why iceland is stupid.

per capita the number is high, but there are only a couple of hundred thousand people there so even if 100% of the population (which will obviously not happen) was a regular visitor of a website, that website will just be moderately succesful.

Of course we will never be as successful as an english speaking website. But even so you would expect that, for example, there would be an image board. But there is not, an image board is successful in that people feel more safe to post whatever they want and thus attracting an increased traffic. But nobody wants to be the creator of an Icelandic image board, not an icelander that is, because being the owner of a website that has political incorrect opinions will circle the news and damage your reputation in a small community.

@OP
I'm sorry, many languages are going to be crushed under the steamroller of English, just as Latin wiped out a lot of languages in it's day. If it's any consolation, English will be a dead language someday, too.

Its okay, i really could not care less about icelandic. Its however so annoying to see Icelandic being upheld as a sense of pride yet being uncared for, unnoticed in its decline. If there ever is a website where everyone can gather under the same roof, then it will be torn down as mobs gather and criticize the ISP for allowing that website, the website that contain unagreeable opinion, to be accessed.

All the scandinavians languages will die in a few decades because they are all fags. They will have english as first language and arabic as second. or vice-versa.

I used to think so, but now, what on earth is iceland even? I Was conceived there, i was even born there, but I became self aware in denmark, i have no country to call my own but if I did have the option to call iceland my own, I would not. It's a frozen rock with family ties, what do you want from me?
