How did the site lose your uid? Do you mean your cookies somehow got lost, and got signed out, and never made an attempt to set a memorable username/password or to download your ID card? Or did any of those fail?

That is very odd, if you are active on the site and it suddenly loses your UID then the most likely reason is that your browser is somehow losing cookies. In any case, I recommend heading over to stuff->dashboard and setting a memorable username & password, then you can restore that uid using stuff->restore id. If you for some reason care about your old ID let me know and I'll pm you the id card.
