Why wouldn't there be Russian troops in Crimea? They have a naval base in Sevastopol. It's full of Russian people, with a Russian heritage dating back to Catherine the Great in 1783. Russia sending in troops to protect Russians in a territory which has been Russian since 1783 (with a brief 50-odd year interlude) makes complete sense.
And if Eastern Ukraine wants to break away and join Russia why should anyone care? No one threw a shitfit when Sudan bisected itself, or when Yugoslavia broke up into about a dozen different countries, or when the Czech Republic and Slovakia split. National borders are often arbitrary and subject to change.

Fuck, Britain should retake a lot of stuff then. We can start by invading Hong Kong, then holding a referendum where "remain part of China" isn't on the ballot, then annex them. It's genius!
