Only about 3 days with backpack - me and wife in New Hampshire. Not planned much in advance. I have had multiple cool encounters with wild animals and I MEAN ANIMALS! but on that trail we stopped to take a picture of something and a big bird flew right to my free open hand (Italian hand talk) and landed back of my palm and and wot can one say about that? It looked at me nor did we have any food out. Stayed with me as I stood there for perhaps 70 seconds and flew off.
Have done end to end John Muir trail n Sierra Nevada's Cal. and did that 4 times BUT I did not climb Mt Whitney to top on purpose!

New Hampshire near the White mountains so me thinks dem Hill Billies Georgia Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia part of trail. Lots of good people all sharing candy/trail mix. Backing adventures for me are thing of the past now - I have all the equip but now when I have the tyme to take say 3 weeks off I do it in winter to Ski.

No, but I'd like to. The problem for me is how long it takes, I got bills to pay. Ain't nobody got time for that. There's also a trail that runs from like Washington state to Mexico, I'd like to that one as well.

I think that one is the Pacific Crest Trail.
Then you have the American Discovery Trail, it runs from Maryland to California.

Well if you're really interested in doing any of these trails Google around and find people that have done them before giving advice. The biggest issue is time and money, any of those trails can be done fairly cheap, but they all take months to complete. IIRC one guy did the PCT for less than $500.

Not giving advice, I know nothing about any of the trails except some names.
I been eyeing up the Appalachian Trail and might do it next year if I can save up the cash.

That one I have done some of in Chunks Yet not once as intended. Example the John Muir trail was made part of the PCT. Look C its 210.4 miles (338.6 km) Done that 4 times but NOT to completion cause I refused to do the Mt Whitney part of that trail.
Other parts of PCT I have done in Washington st Oregon and a nice portion close to Mexico border but again any portion of PCT I have done was as a result of planned hikes on trails that happen to be a part of the PCT. I live about 2 hour drive to Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and has the PCT going though it. Its fantastic desert amazing rocks to climb and flowers in spring and one does that to get to Mexico
However death probably becomes ya if you were to try that this week or for the next 4 months. 120 degrees kind of death or you wish you were b4 u die there n yes people have completed it during those months and I read a book by someone who has several tymes. Me? If its over 80 degrees with me and a day pack or backpack - just no way to live n enjoy my life outdoors - except at the beach of course.
If your hike will last longer than 8-10 days, you will have to resupply along the trail. Also the only way to do PCE or Appalachian is to wayyyy in advance set up points where you have food stashed - I have done 500 or so miles n that was with my wife and we had a great tyme but it was a few months of advanced planning and working out food and beer brandy stash. People do mail such to Post offices, but I have never done that AND AND Nor I ever gone from one point to 100 miles away and then done the return trip. For me its a plane bus or even have hitched to get back to my car when I was doing it solo

Prior2 for training I climbed Mount McKinley, a tad over 20,000 feet. Everest is over 29,000 feet.
Friends all experienced climbers all got mountain sick (lots of people die from such. I did not get sick but I did feel like I could do no more and also felt like I needed to see a doctor to check out my lungs.
After about 17,000 feet I was having a hard tyme with breathing and I was n super shape.
Turns out and u will C me ragging on to postmortem n others about smoking. I was never really such but did smoke pipes (no inhale) and it was the second hand smoke in moms home as kiddlet in living room every nite watching TV.
My lungs are super super good at taking in Oxygen re exercise but bottom of my lungs prevent the exhale of CO2. Climbing Everest turned out not to be an option, or for that matter anything over 16,000 feet
