Topic: Can a 3D Printer one day print a 3D Printer?

Anonymous A started this discussion 12 years ago #35,545

I want to print the parts to construct my own 3D printer.

Yes, it's been done for quite some time.

Yes of course the printer can print in 3D, the Intel CPU with 32nm transistors. 934,000,000, 32 nano meter transistors, would be just nothing special for the printer.
or perhaps on 2nd thought a wee bit difficult.

The PCB a multi layer, matrix composite of glass fibers in alternating directions/layers surrounded by epoxy resin, just a walk in the park as you sit down for lunch and return with this all printed out.

Current printer technological limits might produce a CPU of 8 bits clocking at 5000 Hz, but just wait a few years while we increase the speed and move into byte power.

Exactly

I could have made text speek more better, but been to a beach party directly below my back yard n have 1/4 keg of craft local brew in me

I could have also added the minor problem of printing the various oxides into 934,000,000 transistors and somehow placing in the many many various doping atoms in2 each transistor.

Yes! I can't remember the name of the project, but there is a homemade 3D printer that can print off its own components so you can make more. I think its like snipsnap or crickcrack or something?

what good is a 3d printer that prints 3d printers? that's like a doomsday scenerio where we are all crushed under quadrillions of 3d printed 3d printers.

LOL

I could add the 3d printers that are making for real body parts for humans. More a ink jet process then 3d but they make the parts in 3d and of course are not jetting with plastic.

SO One day perhaps a 3D printer will print out a full working HUMAN who will then take other 3D printers to do more of same and create army of HUMANS to populate this vacant planet
